The food quality was equally poor:
• Chicken Drumsticks – Only 4 small pieces for 280 MUR.
• Kebabs – Just 2 pieces for 290 MUR, and both tasted of reused fried oil.
• Lamb Biryani – We ordered 2 portions at 1100 MUR, but instead of quality lamb, they added 2 big potatoes to fill the dish.
The oil they used for frying smelled stale, showing they recycle oil multiple times. Portion sizes were extremely small for the high prices charged. On top of that, the staff’s response to our concerns was careless and unhelpful.
For a restaurant with such a reputation, the service, food hygiene, and value for money were absolutely pathetic. Definitely not worth the cost
The experience might satisfy non-Indian diners, but I’d advise fellow Indians to explore other options. If you do visit, be prepared for potentially slow service.
“Great experience at Happy Raja! The service was top-notch, food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely. Highly recommend! “

Ordered the chicken vindaloo, don t be afraid of it if you are used to spicy food in general ( not spicy by indian standards )
From the moment you step in, the ambiance is inviting, with tasteful décor that reflects the rich culture of India. The spacious seating arrangement makes it comfortable for families, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed, perfect for a casual meal or a special gathering.
One of the highlights of Happy Rajah is its **exceptional customer service**. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to recommend dishes based on your preferences. Orders are taken promptly, and the food arrives in a reasonable time, ensuring a smooth dining experience.
As for the food, it truly captures the essence of Indian cuisine. From **butter chicken to flavorful biryanis and freshly made naans**, every dish is well-seasoned and prepared with quality ingredients. The balance of spices is perfect, catering to both mild and spicy palates. Vegetarian options are also plentiful, making it an inclusive choice for all diners.
Overall, **Happy Rajah Restaurant** offers a **memorable dining experience** with its **family-friendly setting, top-notch service, and mouthwatering Indian food**. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Grand Baie, this restaurant is definitely worth a stop!
Meal type: …
Let’s start with the staffs, they surely lack training in being great to all the customers (Mauritians & Tourists), I didn’t appreciate the fact that we had people coming after us, but they were served before us. More smiling faces would not hurt next time!
Waiting time to get food was around 45mins!
Food wise: non veg:
The chicken makhni, paneer curry, chicken Kadai were delicious, this would definitely get ratings 8.5/10!
However, seems like the staffs were busy, and we received few items cold, and had to ask them to reheat them!
Veg wise – Dum Aloo is highly not recommended, having a whole boiled potato in just a gravy with not great taste!
Paneer curry – Highly recommended, one of the delicious and soft paneer chunks I had. They literally melt in yours mouth!
They do offer other varieties of both veg and non veg!
Drinks:
Mango Lassi – 7/10 (They serve it in glasses, but it taste better when given in steels glasses, remains cold and taste better)
Virgin Mojoto – 8/10
Coca Cola – I find it expensive for a glass for rs100
We have other restaurants who offer 0.5 bottle for same price!
Atmosphere:
It’s cosy and nice, we have AC and the interior decor is very nice!
Overall:
I will still recommend Happy Rajah for Indian Food!❤️ Might be this time luck was not on our side but will surely comeback again!
