It’s not cheap but the quality is there. They have their own boat to catch the fish. Plus where else could you eat fish that was in the sea the day before. Cooked so beautifully.

I visited Rockfish again last night, and just like every time before, it was an exceptional experience. The food was outstanding — fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavour. The variety of fresh fish on the menu is genuinely impressive, offering plenty of choice whether you’re in the mood for something familiar or feeling adventurous. It’s one of the few places where you can confidently try something new, knowing it’ll be prepared beautifully. And of course, the classic haddock and chips remains consistently excellent.
The service was once again superb. The team are always warm, welcoming, and attentive, creating a relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel looked after from the moment you arrive. The ambience is lovely too — comfortable, inviting, and ideal for both a casual evening out or a slightly special occasion.
And you really can’t forget the limitless chips — a simple idea, but one that somehow adds even more charm to the experience.
Overall, Rockfish continues to impress with every visit. Great food, great service, and a genuinely welcoming feel. I’ll definitely be back again.
Having booked a table for Saturday lunch, we arrived early and were still seated straight away. The host and our waitress didn’t mind at all that my partner had bought his scales so he could weigh his food when it arrived at the table. Our waitress Charlotte was also really helpful in suggesting which catches a fish. My partner could have that would not be battered and she understood the need for no butter on the potatoes and the salad with no dressing. As for me, I was able to make great high protein choices (cockles to start) as well as opting for something a little more off plan with the Prawn tacos; these were perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
We couldn’t have been happier with the quality of the food or the service we recieved; definitely one of the best dining experiences we have had in recent months. We both agreed that we would go back when we could enjoy the bottomless chips which we passed on, on this occasion
Some of the other low reviews here point to many of the issues a chain restaurant suffers from – constantly changing serving staff and chefs.
With all that said, the head server and Toni-Jay were amazing with us on our two visits.
While I have seen some reviews point to the quality of food, as a seasoned reviewer I thought it was to a very good standard overall.
The fish was daily and very fresh. The different starters, like the vegetable tempura, were done very well, with decent quality olives for example, and bread.
The sides like beans and slaw with great, as well as rhe compound butters.
I also thought their lager was tasty.
The decor is very pleasing in here and the fake shipping forecast audible in the rest rooms was amusing.
The owners of the chain have to get to grips with the food-speed issue and I was surprised to find it was a chain after our first visit. However, the wait for quality food was worth it overall.
Many people will not come back locally if these issues persist on slow-speed of food, and on both occasions the wait for food was 40 minutes per course.
Because there is a high-turnover of tourists in the summer, though, I suspect it will be able to manage this situation.
This is a must-book place I would say if you are going to eat here in tourist season as it was very busy.
If and when we are next in Poole, we will be stopping by again! Thank you
This is our fourth visit and it was the main reason for the trip to Poole (although our dogs were exhausted from the beach just prior).
The welcome was enthusiastic and warm for not just us humans but especially for our two dogs – they were really made a fuss of with free sprats given.
Food here is always outstanding. I love that the waitress describes each special fish that’s available.
The mussels were large and so delicious, so too the calamari, but the real highlight for me was the Megrim Sole – it was huge and cooked to perfection. The rest of us enjoyed the John Dory & Ray Wings.
Great service, outstanding food, reasonable value & best of all – very dog friendly. What’s not to love.
Staff are scripted to explain the types of fish & seafood available, & how each dish is served, but they could improve on being more attentive.
The restaurant has nice inside seating, & a few outdoor tables, great if the sun is shinning!
We opted for the whole seabass, which is served off the grill, along with 2 sides; a nicely dressed salad & unlimited fries!
The ‘meaty’ Seabass was flavoursome, & cooked well, if anything I felt ever so slightly over. It was sat in a delicious garlicky butter, & for me, this could have been swimming in it, it was so good! It was a great ‘social’ dish & was perfect with the chips! however, we did order extra, ‘unlimited’ was offered; but sadly they took ages to arrive (a fryer issue!?) and we ended up eating them after we finished the fish!
The wine list was good, & without starters, a shared main & no desert, the bill came to just over £100, which wasn’t bad for the size & quality of the Bass!
Overall a good place if you appreciate fish, but I feel service could have been better & the delay’s was a bit disappointing.
