The only reason I’m writing this today is primarily because of my experience. I had went to this location today march 2nd 2026 and I was there to get lunch and possibly eat on the way home, and after placing my order I found that I was waiting really long for my food, but as I was waiting I noticed a woman walk in with her full platter and places it on the counter, simply says “I can’t eat this, the food is old and cold” and just leaves. I should have thought about that because maybe5 min later I get my food and on the way home I go, I did do a quick glance of the food and it seemed fine but when I got home and opened the food the brisket was old looking and cold. It wasn’t tender but chewy which told me it wasn’t fresh, and as I ate the fries and sausage, I also realized that the food was cold. I spent $20 and gave a tip because personally I love bbq and I typically have a good experience with my food but not today. I was very disappointed, so much so I had to write a review. And I’m sorry if this hurts business but the should 100% be accountability for this. The guy who would cut the meat was chewing away , non stop eating as I waited 15-20 min for “fries”. You have to do better and today was a bad example of better. I’m not sure when I’ll be back to Bono’s but in the future if I do decide to, I hope I don’t experience what I experienced today.

Lunch consisted of pulled pork cheese fries to share, and 2 plates of brisket, coleslaw slaw, mac & cheese or sweet potato, and garlic toast with diet sodas. The brisket had a little fat to it but the pulled pork had none. Slaw was normal. Mac & cheese was on the softer side. Fries were good. Toast was crunchy. Just under $60 / 2 ppl. plus tip. Our waitress was attentive and brought refills before we ran out. Happy people and a smokey atmosphere made it more of an experience as opposed to a meal.

We ordered burgers and fries and for a barbecue restaurant. It was not worth mcdonald’s would have been a better choice and that’s not saying much. The burger was so thin and overcooked. You could hardly swallow it. I do not recommend this place. It wasn’t even crowded so the cook had plenty of time to put some kind of time into this meal.

Pretty disappointed to be honest. Barely better than Sonny’s. The food came out lukewarm at best. The sweet tea is amazing. Best thing you can buy here. The service wasn’t good, our waitress seemed like she had been here all day and was just ready to go home. My boyfriend ordered a three meat combo, and it only came out with two. I won’t be back.

BONOS at Philips hwy location. Are great people.. I showed my veteran ID .SHE GAVE ME A 10% discount. Didn’t need to be in a uniform.. appreciate that part. On the other hand the BONOS on Bowden Rd jax FL.. said 5% discount and I had to be in uniform.. which was crazy.. so if you’re a veteran and want to be treated nicely..go to BONOS on Philips hwy location.. VAMP GOD BLESS

So as much as I love Bono’s, this Philip highway location is disgusting. I ordered food to go today that was delivered to me and it seems like because I’m not in the restaurant they wanted to give me the worst food ever. My smoked wings were so overcooked and burnt I couldn’t even eat them. They were so hard and disgusting. All of my sides the macaroni and cheese was disgusting pasteurized cheese. The collard greens were sweet and that was nasty. The green beans had no flavor. And to top it all off the ribs had no seasoning. I think they need to fire everybody from the cook to the manager to the server to the waitress to the togo girl that packed up the plate. I will never eat at the Phillips highway location ever again. I am very very disappointed that I spent my money my hard on money on that meal. Yeah I’m not sure if it’s because I ordered doordash and I am not coming to the restaurant that they felt like they could just give me any type of food because they felt like I wasn’t going to come back up there and complain. I am very disappointed in this location.

We spent most of the day a the car dealership across from Bonos. We were starving. They hooked us up. I got half a chicken that was so good. Very pleased.

We were having our car serviced a short distance away so we decided to give bono’s a try. My husband and I both were very hungry so we ordered the two meat platters that came with two sides each. My husband got the chicken and ribs with collard greens and baked beans. I got the brisket and turkey with the sweet potato and the side special of the day, which was potato salad.
I’ll start with the only serious negative, but it was negative enough to knock a whole star off my rating. My husband and I both love brisket. I mean really love it. We eat it a lot at different restaurants and we make our own. The brisket here was the worst I have ever had. It was dried out and so very tough. Good brisket can be pulled apart with a fork and is tender and moist. I could not pull this apart because the meat was so incredibly tough and extremely dry. I fought whoever was in the kitchen plating this up because you could tell it wasn’t going to be good by looking at it. I had to chew it for a long long time and the flavor was okay, nice and smoky, but not good enough to make up for how dry and tough it was. On the way out I saw that they appeared to have their meats sitting in an open flame area and I just imagined that’s where all the moisture got sucked out of it.

On a happier note, everything else was pretty good. My husband absolutely loved the chicken. We thought our ribs and turkey were pretty good, although not the best. My sweet potato was just a normal sweet potato wrapped and baked, but it was beautifully fluffy and cooked to perfection. They were out of the usual cinnamon butter unfortunately. The potato salad was quite good, tasting almost like homemade. The potatoes were a little too hard, but the flavor was spot on. The collard greens were what you would expect from collard Greens. The baked beans had some meat in it and my husband seemed to like them just fine.

The hostess was very sweet and I appreciated her service. Our waitress was good, but she asked about how we liked our food a bit too early, as I had not yet tasted the brisket. I didn’t want to make a big deal about it because everything else was good. It was quite a lot of food anyway.

It’s a nice atmosphere and I think the value was pretty good. I would come again, but I would not order the brisket lol!

I’m deeply frustrated and honestly pretty sad about this experience. I ordered food through Uber Eats for my team who was working on Christmas Eve, knowing options were limited with it being a holiday. I was able to place and pay for a preorder the night before with Bono’s, only for the order to be canceled today at 12:02 pm. It was supposed to be delivered between 12:30 and 1 pm. Really bad service!

That’s extremely unprofessional. I received no call from the restaurant and no call or text from Uber Eats letting me know it was canceled. We were just left hanging. If you’re not able to provide service on holidays, then you should mark yourselves as closed or unavailable. Don’t allow people to place and pay for orders you can’t fulfill.

This directly affected my team who was counting on that food, and that’s the most disappointing part. To be clear, this isn’t the first time this has happened. I let it go the last time, but this was the final straw.

Please take this as a learning moment. Be more professional and courteous, especially on holidays. Sorry but not sorry. I’d also warn anyone else thinking about ordering a platter to be cautious if ordering to go! I spent well over $178 with fees and tip! Do better!

We always like to visit this particular Bono’s as the food always seems to be on point!! A little understaffed during our visit, but our waitresses phenomenal character more than made up for it. All the food we got was fresh and hot!! Exactly as we ordered it. Chicken was juicy, ribs were tender brisket charred perfectly. Dirty rice could be less sweet.. Kudos to this location!! To boot, a very nice tree service owner named Juston took care of our bill without telling us too!! It’s okay, we paid it forward to our hardworking waitress, unbeknownst to her 🙂
