I am so SAD! We have been long time regulars but tonight that came to an end. I called in an order only to be told that all of the items we usually order are no longer on the menu. Their menu online still lists the old items we loved. (In particular fish tacos). I decided to give it a try and order a vegetarian burrito and a shrimp burrito. We added on chips and guacamole. The total came to $47.48. Hardly any shrimp in the $18 burrito and I am disappointed to say that the price is no longer worth what you get.

Photo of our receipt and the new menu that’s in the restaurant. RIP to an old neighborhood favorite.

Cash only, very busy place, decent size menu, we opted to get the combo meal which was reasonably priced and portions were good. Only down side to getting the combo meal is that all 3 tacos have to have the same meat choice not allowing to explore the other meat options on the menu. From time of ordered it took about 20-30 mins to get the food but it was hot and perfectly cooked with no issues. Would recommend that the get real silverware for the prices they are charging but that’s a small side comment. Definitely will be coming back with friends for the happy hour !

I have been going to this place since they were on Diversey and California. I haven’t been there in a while but I’ve been craving the Steak burrito! So I went there the other day!!! Wow how have they cut down on the meat!!! I ordered what I was craving a steak burrito and it was hands down unsatisfactory. I took it to go and when I opened it and took a bite of it!!! It was almost all lettuce!! Barely no steak!!! I was so disappointed!!! I was like that commercial where’s the steak!! I paid almost $20 for lettuce!!! I guess in the beginning it was a good portion of meat!! But they must see it as they built their clientele and now they hold back on the meat!!! I will not be going back! Although the meat is good but for $20 and almost all lettuce!!!! I rather go somewhere else where they don’t hold back and give you what you pay for!! I would have just ordered a veggie burrito oppose of a burrito with meat!!! It’s a shame but again they must be doing good to cut back on what got them to where they are!!! Taconazo here I come!!

As much as I LOVE this place they have priced out the regulars as the area gentrifies. $20 for a burrito is absolute insanity. I’ve since learned how to make my own burritos and tortas and Ive gotten pretty good. I hate to say goodbye to this place but I’m left no choice.

This used to be my favorite taco place, but they discontinued both the veggie and fish tacos, so I no longer have a reason to go. Everything else you can find just as good elsewhere. The veggie of the day was really special and one of the few substantial and tasty vegetarian / vegan tacos around.

I had a really frustrating experience trying to place a to-go order.
I called in to order 3 fish tacos and a carne asada burrito. I was told the combo wasn’t available anymore, which was fine, so I ordered 3 fish tacos with everything and 1 carne asada burrito with everything. I was told the total was $44, but the reception wasn’t great, so I didn’t think much of it at first.
When I arrived, I asked her to repeat the total because $44 didn’t make sense. At $5 per taco and about $15 for a burrito, it should’ve been closer to $35 with tax. Instead of explaining, she gave me an attitude and said, “That’s the total,” and “Do you want the order or not?” She also claimed they don’t sell fish tacos anymore, which was never mentioned on the phone.
Because the pricing didn’t add up and the attitude was unnecessary, I canceled the order.
Out of curiosity, I placed the same order online from my car and the total came out to $32.92.
So where did $44 come from?
Between the lack of transparency, incorrect pricing, and poor customer service, this experience was very disappointing. I won’t be returning.

It’s a good, photo ready burrito, but it’s not a ton of food for 13 dollars. Al pastor is pretty tender and works well with the pineapple.

The lettuce is unnecessary and the red/green sauces are a nice contrast.

Still searching for better.

I used to genuinely enjoy coming to L Patron. It was one of my go-to spots in Chicago, and I hadn’t been back since late summer / early fall of 2025. I returned today expecting the same solid tacos I remembered — instead, I experienced serious sticker shock.

$7 for a single steak taco.
$5 for a single chicken taco.

That’s $14 for two steak tacos and $10 for two chicken tacos — before tax. On top of that, there’s now an added “inflation service fee.” Seeing an extra fee layered onto already elevated prices feels excessive.

The total for a few tacos, a torta, and rice came out to nearly $58. For what is traditionally casual, counter-style Mexican food, that pricing feels disconnected from value.

I understand food costs have risen everywhere. I’m realistic about that. But there’s a difference between modest price adjustments and what feels like aggressive pricing plus added fees. At this level, the experience has to feel exceptional — and today it simply didn’t justify the cost.

It’s disappointing because this used to be a place I recommended. After today, I’m not sure I’ll be back. Loyal customers notice when pricing crosses from understandable to unreasonable.

I hope ownership reconsiders the pricing structure. I’d love to see this place thrive — but at these prices, they may lose long-time customers like me.

That was my steak burrito. The food had no flavor, the salsa tasted old. The price for that qualify of food is unacceptable.
