Well – I had high hopes. But it’s just not good. Food wasn’t good. Service was slow and mixed up orders and requests. We had a group of 5 and we were told we couldn’t put tables together to sit inside unless we wanted a booth – even though inside was pretty much empty. We were 5 individuals there for a work dinner and a both just didn’t make sense…. Outside was fine and ultimately better – but why not let us sit inside? Corn appetizer was probably the best item. Sprouts were ok but very oily. Cheese curds were lot squeaky and tasted like small mozzarella sticks (not a bad thing). Surf and turf tacos were extremely fishy with no sign of any turf. Winter arugula looked like they picked it up off the floor from last week.

Won’t be going back.

Wonderful venue for my dad’s 90th birthday party in Fireplace Room B! The atmosphere was casual, but upscale, with plenty of room, yet private and cozy. A great space. Pamella was very responsive and accommodating with my specific requests. Everything was perfect! She even repurposed some centerpieces from the night before to dress up our tables- such a beautiful surprise! Ryan and Henry took care of us that evening with efficiency, kindness and professionalism. Couldn’t have asked for better service. The guests raved about the grilled ribeye and mushroom ravioli! Several also loved the Marry Me Chicken, but did notice it was spicy, which wasn’t mentioned in the description. We received so many compliments from our guests and couldn’t have asked for a nicer venue and evening! Thank you, Big Grove Tavern!

We were blown away by this place—easily the best shrimp and grits we’ve had north of I-10, right here in Champaign, Illinois! The food was outstanding, but what made the experience truly memorable was the service.

From the moment we arrived, our waiter set the tone with warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine interest in our journey. He spoke with pride about the General Manager and head chef, and his passion for the menu was contagious. He described the upscale dishes with affection but made sure we knew the burgers were just as carefully crafted.

His service was perfectly balanced: attentive without hovering, present without pressure. He gave us space to enjoy our meal without rushing us, and when it came time to discuss dessert, he brought the same thoughtful energy.

A rare combination of inspired cuisine and gracious hospitality. We’ll be back.

Tortilla soup, very good, mixed drinks, as expected, burger, not a big/sturdy enough bun for the size of the burger/toppings. Place seemed quiet but wasn’t empty.

Haven’t written a review in a while, so here goes! Been wanting to try a full meal at Big Grove Tavern, although I have had some delicious appetizers there in the past. The ambiance is stylish and the outdoor seating is very appealing. The Southwest salad we had was fresh and very tasty, and the avocado in it was high quality and perfectly ripe! The pizza was surprisingly good, especially for a restaurant that is not your traditional pizza hangout. As for my main dish, I ordered the Osso Bucco; braised pork shank over mashed potatoes, sautéed carrots and green beans, with a chipotle gravy. I was absolutely delighted at how delicious and well plated it was! And, as a semi retired food photographer, trust me, they hit the mark with the presentation! I highly recommend this establishment. I can’t wait to return to try another item! PS, our waitress Emma was outstanding, kind and personable!

Wow. Came here on business visiting from Atlanta, sat at a high top table by the bar. Food, service, and drinks were all amazing! Will definitely be back next time I’m in town. ( You have to try the Mary Me Chicken )

Well . . . I feel bad to write such a negative review, because the waitress was wonderful and the lady who came to check everyone’s table was very nice and accommodating when we complained. Five stars for service! I think this place has potential with the ambiance, location, and menu choices if they can find a cook/chef to execute the nicely crafted menu. First, I ordered the shrimp and scallop ceviche. It had no flavor, except for the abundant amount of cucumber. No salt, no lime, no seasonings. They refunded 50 % which is fair because we ate half of it. I ordered the brisket barbecue hash.
The beef was cut odd, and had no flavor except for the copious amount of bbq sweet ketchup it was swimming in. The potatoes were soggy, and it was obvious they weren’t homemade. My meal was refunded, so the response was excellent from the owners. My husband got biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were doughy and way undercooked. The gravy was a pinkish beige and had almost no sausage . . . it was the oddest biscuits and gravy I had ever seen. He didn’t complain because we honestly felt bad to be so critical. Maybe we just hit a bad day, but I am writing this because I think if the management listens this could be a great place.

Stopped in for a quick dinner while passing through town since this was close to our hotel. Friendly, quick service. Good drinks and delicious food – I had a taco platter and my husband had a burger. Big portions and reasonably priced. We mentioned being from out of town and our server offered great suggestions of breweries/nearby establishments to check out. Would definitely come back!

A great lunch option in Champaign. The menu is reasonable, the meat was excellent, and the fries were delicious! We ordered the special Valentine’s dessert, a Red Velvet cheesecake, and loved it. The portion sizes are generous.

Waited so long for our server to come over we almost left. We were literally on google trying to decide where to go. Our server hung out at the bar while our drinks sat empty. It hurt my soul to leave a 10% tip. But to be honest he didn’t even deserve that. The food was FANTASTIC but that’s the only thing that was good. We all left disappointed. It was supposed to be a good birthday lunch and our terrible service ruined it.
