Not a bad experience at all. Service was great. Long Island was great.
Seemed a wonderful place to take family for a night out.
I could see the grill, which was interesting.
The main course was very good. I got the ribeye. Salad, shrimp cocktail, and dessert were lackluster, but that’s not why I went.
I’d go to HP1 for a family dinner, and HP2 for date night.
It was worth the drive from Avila Beach. We will return next year on our visit to Avila.
The shrimp cocktail they served was eh… the shrimp were served lukewarm, and the quality just wasn’t there. Plus, the sauce was way sweeter than I expected. The salad was also pretty basic; it felt like something you’d get at a Golden Corral.
As for the mains, the Sirloin was cooked perfectly, but the flavor itself was just okay. The lobster was a huge disappointment… it was surprisingly tough/hard to eat. Filet mignon was actually great! If you’re getting steak here, definitely go with the filet.
Our server (I think her name was Amy or Emily?) was super sweet and fast. The vibe is very chill and laid-back. But just a heads-up. It’s in the middle of nowhere, so I had no service on my phone. Personally I wouldn’t go visit again but since this is popular restaurant, I would still recommend my friends to visit
Even though we had no reservation, we were seated shortly after 4. Dinner was great; we shared a rack of baby back ribs, wonderfully seasoned and tender, vegetables, salad.and ice cream for dessert. The waiter was very attentive and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our dinner. All the while many other customers kept coming in and the place filled up quickly. We would definitely recommend this unique restaurant and the drive from Thousand Oaks to Casmalia is very beautiful too!!
Also the stray cat outside, I don’t know what his name is, but i Nicknamed him “Scratchy” he’s always by the front door ready to greet you lol.
Everything about the experience was smooth and spot-on. No frills, no fuss – just excellent service and even better food. The steaks were perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and clearly high quality. You know when you take the first bite and you just know you’re in for a good evening? That was it.
The staff was professional and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere had just the right balance of relaxed and refined. No single over-the-top moment – just consistently great service and an obvious pride in what they do.
If you’re anywhere nearby and love a proper steak, do yourself a favor and go. This place delivers exactly what you’re hoping for when you walk into a steakhouse – and then some 🙂
And then there was the steak… Hands down, the best steak I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and bursting with flavor. You could tell that Chef Luis takes great pride in his work each bite was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The seasoning was spot on, enhancing the natural flavor of the meat without overpowering it.
The service was top-notch as well attentive without being overbearing. It’s rare to find a place that combines exceptional food with such heartfelt hospitality. If you’re looking for a steakhouse experience that’s not just about great food but also about feeling genuinely cared for, The Hitching Post is the place to go. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!
