While the service may be slow as hell, the food was actually very, very good. I took the prix fixe dinner menu, which includes a first, a main, and a dessert for €39—which is a bargain for this kind of place.

They had an incredible gravlax over what one might call a mille-feuille with cheese; it was really, really good. This was followed by a fish which in French is called maigre (M-A-I-G-R-E) and is apparently some sort of stone bass or sea bass, which was also really good.

But the highlights were really the desserts. There is a dessert area which is kind of like a buffet where you can take whatever you want, and they are really incredible.

Wonderful location and atmosphere. Meets all the charm and expectations of being in Chamonix. However, service not particularly friendly or engaging. Felt rushed. For expensive, high end dining I would expect a fish knife and not a steak knife with my fish entree. All other restaurants in the area did so. We ordered the mixed fish entree and received 2 tiny pieces of fish with mostly puree on the plate, see photo. We also ordered the steak at 75€ and received 2 tiny pieces, see photo. A bit disappointing. There are so many other fantastic restaurants in the area that we preferred.

My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary tonight and thoroughly enjoyed our time. One of our servers, Delara was exceptionally kind, considerate and empathetic. She made our evening very special. I understand she’s new to the restaurant. I hope she’s recognized for her excellent work. Aside from the food was very good, especially the desserts. The lemon tart/pie was extremely good, probably the best I’ve had. Thank you for a lovely evening.

The rustic wooden atmosphere with smoking saucison and meat was cosy and homey. We ordered the 59chf set meal where each plate from starter to the main – crispy roast pork belly was so good yet juicy. I had the fish dumpling with lobster sauce that comes with a mini risotto as my main so very tasty and unique. For dessert, if you opt in, you will go to the buffet style table to fetch your dessert, fun! Will come back for other dishes. Suggest to book in advance

We went for a leisurely lunch and enjoyed every minute and each bite. The food is rustic and honest, yet refined. My son ordered the beef special which was incredible, absolutely delicious. I had the fish which was also very good. Every single thing we tasted was superb, the bread and butter, the starters, the wine by the glass, the dessert buffet. Staff was super friendly and was patient while my son practiced his French. If there’s one place you go for a nice meal, make it here.

All the staff at la Maison Carrier made us feel at home by their kindness to us. Their English was good which was lucky because our French is not so good. Our favourite main course was the trout ballotine with citrus fruits, artichoke and arugula pesto. It was melt-in-the-mouth and had a very punchy flavour. I had an entree which I adored that was egg, cream and cured meat. The serves were ample. We were recommended to the restaurant by our Airbnb host. The little extra things they gave us at the beginning and end of the meal were very tasty. As you no doubt realise from other reviews, they have an amazing dessert buffet called ‘Grandma’s tarts’ – all the French desserts you even dreamed of. People came into the restaurant looking serious but after the dessert buffet they were all smiling. I liked the fresh cherry tart and the oeuf en neige best. We felt the meal was good value.

An amazing way to finish the holiday. A fine dining experience in a relaxed garden setting with beautiful food and lovely service. We both opted for the very reasonable daily 5 course menu – €59. Delicious. I would have paid more.

Third time back. I go every time I’m in Chamonix. The lamb rack was juicy and perfection…cooked perfectly! The dessert buffet is indulgent. The vanilla custard and chocolate cake were my favorites.

Great value for the menu of the day!

Finally, FANTASTIC service from our waitress vivi (hope that’s how you spell it) who was extra attentive and patient explaining the dishes!
