We ordered the Bruschetta, Sfinciuni Pizze, Schiacciata Pizze, and a couple of pasta dishes — everything tasted fantastic and authentically Sicilian. Each dish had its own unique flavor, and everyone at the table enjoyed sampling the different items.
Overall, we had a great experience from start to finish. I’d highly recommend Licari’s to anyone looking for something different and better than the typical pizza or Italian restaurants in Grand Rapids. We’ll definitely be back!
I called in for carrot, a large pizza pie with double pepperoni and banana peppers.
The flavor was spot on per usual, great sauce.
The pepperonis were plentiful but the banana peppers were scarce.
Only 3 pieces had visible banana peppers.
So that’s the reason for a 2 star.
Value is so so. $25 for a pizza is in the ballpark for Italian restaurants.
Looks like we made a good choice on the time of day since there were only a handful of people, there was a couple at the bar and another at a high top with maybe two of the booths being occupied. We were asked if high tops were okay and agreed but then were seated at the absolute worst table location ever, despite the fact that the restaurant was fairly empty. The white staff proceeded to the table directly adjacent to the exit for both barbacks and waste staff as well as the swinging doors to the kitchen where traffic would be going through at a constant. We ordered two pizzas, the Margarita, and the Michelangelo.
We also decided to order the garlic bread with fresh mozzarella.
Garlic bread arrived and after taking the first bite I thought perhaps this spot in the bread didn’t receive enough garlic. So, bite number two; had they just forgot to put any actual garlic on it? It was just warm bread with slightly melted slices of mozzarella on there. Very dull very bland.
We barely touched the other three slices and hoped the award-winning pizzas would make up for the flavor deficit.
Our wait staff brought the pizzas and after futzing and fumbling around with the serving apparatus for what seemed like far too long we finally took our slices. Again, incredibly bland. The only flavor that came out of the margarita was the little bits of shredded basil on top. I thought I was going insane. Did I get COVID? We both tried each other’s pizzas and came to the conclusion that it was not us it was them. Zero flavors at all. If you happened upon a bite of the Michelangelo or the bacon that had crisped, it was the only good texture or mouth feel and flavor you’re going to get the entire time.
While being seated directly in front of the service door to the kitchen which was incredibly annoying and loud, we saw multiple wait staff come and go and could see back inside of there kitchen. Obviously there were all your normal kitchen accoutrements in the back but apparently spices were not to be found. It was the most dull and boring pizza I’ve ever experienced. I’m still in disbelief of all the globe wing write-ups this place gets. I’m not trying to be a contrarian. As I said earlier I love traditional Neapolitan style pizza and have eaten it in every city I’ve lived in or visited. This was not it. I highly recommend going to almost any other place for a pizza. The other crippling blow to this reveiw was that we ordered two small pies and the garlic bread for a bill that came to 50 bucks. Unbelievable. They do have plenty of parking, though.
