Situated atop the historic San Diego neighborhood of Golden Hill and minutes from Downtown, San Diego, the Turf Supper Club was established in the 1950’s as San Diego’s original grill-your-own supper club and bar. Conveniently located near the 5 and 94 freeways, this restaurant and steak house offers a comfortable lounge atmosphere with old school charm, classic cocktails, cold beers, quality meats, jukebox music, a piano, and some of the best people watching anywhere. Order a juicy steak, chicken, or salmon, marinated to perfection and ready for you to cook over the sizzling grill.
Grill-your-own-steak spot for the 21+ crowd with a retro cocktail lounge & kitschy cowboy decor.

Been here a couple times now. Its a fun experience, cool dark spot with full bar and old school 70s vibes. Cooking your own steak makes a difference, you get it the way you want or you mess it up really bad haha. The service is quick and friendly. Fun place to take a date!

An incredibly fun experience! It sounds simple on the outset – a place where you grill your own steaks! Who would want to do that when you go out to eat?! But you mix in the ambience of the supper club environment, the red lighting, the great drinks – and you end up with such a fun and unique experience. Steaks are as good as you make and season them and sides are fine. Parking is an absolute nightmare, if we came again we would uber. Service was good but limited in what they are doing for you since you are going up and cooking yourself! A must do experience in San Diego!

Visiting this place is like stepping back in time.
I had the best steak I’ve had in ages, and the best part about it is I grilled it myself!
I came with three friends from work and we all loved it! The service was super friendly and the drinks were good too!
I’d definitely be a regular if I lived in the area.
Looking forward to bringing more friends when I’ll be back in town later this year!

This is a small location with strong retro vibes. Bar seating and lounge type couches for the booths. The star of the show is the grill in center, so bring your best grilling skills and appetite.

The place was fun at first, but the experience quickly went downhill due to the manager, Sean. When I asked about a specific drink, he abruptly threw the menu down in front of me. My husband calmly addressed his behavior, and instead of de-escalating, Sean had us removed from the venue.
Even the security guard appeared confused by the situation. Sean’s conduct was unprofessional and unnecessarily hostile, and it completely overshadowed what could have been a good experience.
I was visiting with the intention of recommending this place to guests staying at my vacation rentals, but based on this interaction, I can’t in good conscience do so. Customer service matters, and this experience made it clear that it’s lacking here.

Classic cocktails and grill your own steaks! Perfect for an interactive date night. I love the dark, old school feel. The old fashioned was tasty and I did the surf and turf (small steak with a salmon veggie skewer) which also comes with garlic bread you grill. A fun place!

Friendly Staff, open late!! Kitchy retro interior, very busy at 9pm when we arrived, but was able to get a table. Not sure why it takes so long to get your meal when it is uncooked meat? (Chicken came marinated in plastic wrap, be sure to remove it before cooking (;-) The Old Fashion was delicious!!! And others at the table enjoyed their steak’s. Reasonable prices!!!

I haven’t been to the Turf Club in 30 years. Back then, it was a charming, warm, friendly environment with great food and fantastic cocktails. I don’t know why you crossed my mind today. But, I’m so happy to read the great reviews and know you’re still in business. I live on the east coast now, if I ever get back to San Diego, I’m gonna share your experience with my beautiful wife. Thank you for the great memories.
Love the Turf Club!

Turf Supper Club is at once familiar and foreign. It feels like a hip diver bar, but is also a unique restaurant offering high-quality meats and vegetables for you to self-grill. I love that everything is drenched in red light.
My favorite menu items are the cheeseburger, vegetable kabobs, and flank steak. They provide bottles of Worcestershire, Tabasco, BBQ sauce, and more for your food. The best drinks are the sneaky tiki and the martini with blue cheese olives.
The staff members are super friendly and attentive. The jukebox selections are hard to beat. The bill won’t be outrageous. Definitely come through to Turf Club whether it’s for dinner, a drink, or dates.

Amazing dive bar in San Diego. This place has classic martinis and a cook at your own pace grill where they serve a variety of steaks. It is easy to lose 6 hours on any given weekend. Highly recommend!
