This is a good place to eat, but wasn’t what we were expecting.. I thought sit down Italian restaurant.. nope, order at the counter. Seat yourself. Get your own drink. They bring food to your table, but no other interaction w/staff. Had to go back to the counter to get boxes.

In no world is there a cold ham and cheese sandwich worth $10. It used to be well known and loved as the “gondola” but the cheese is now equal to the thickness of the ham and salami. The salami is an absolute joke being as thin as it is. This place has always been convenient, but the quality is not what it once was. Takeout italian at its finest.

I cannot believe that this is a large portion of fettuccine Alfredo with baked chicken added? This should be a small. The pasta was extremely overcooked and mushy. Alfredo had a decent flavor but the consistency of the pasta ruined it for me. Not sure if I’ll return.

I honestly don’t know how this place is rated so high. I’m not trying to be a jerk, I’m just being as honest as I can be.
We ordered the Italian beef sandwich and chicken parmigiana; the Italian beef sandwich was gray and not particularly flavorful. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t much more than okay. The chicken parmigiana was better than the sandwich, but not by much; again, not much more than okay.
The atmosphere was very empty and sparse feeling, but it was clean.
The service was good, the girl at the counter was friendly, although I wish we’d asked if she had recommendations so that maybe we’d had food that was better than okay.
The price was generally inexpensive, but not a great value. Our food plus 1 fountain drink (and tap water) was about $30.

Avanti’s does have a high reputation as a good, local Italian restaurant in the Bloomington area. Especially their bread. The bread was tasty. It was nice and sweet. I got the Italian sausage sandwich with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. It was brought out with a sausage patty on one loaf and cheese slices and marinara on the other. The sausage was good, with a little spice to it. The marinara was just ok. A little tart for my taste. And the presentation was, boring. The toasted ravioli was fine, but nothing better than what you could get from the store. Our waitress was very nice and checked on us a couple times. Overall, just an ok experience.

Am I the only one that is starting to think the only reason I still come here is because of the memories of when it was a walk up restaurant with a pickup window and the food was really good . I’m really starting to feel the nostalgia isn’t enough to keep my business. The food quality is going down hill about as fast a the proportions . So Anyone know where to get a decent Italian beef sandwich in Bloomington normal because the last the last two I have gotten from here we sub par at best . It’s sad the place I remember and what is has become are so different . the only thing Avanti’s has going for it is friendly staff and a clean dinning room with no concerns about loosing food quality .

Had heard great reviews about this place so thought we’d give it a try a few weeks ago. Walked in, first impression was the place looked like a cafeteria, plain but though ok, college town keeping it simple. WAlked up to counter and another customer standing there waiting in front of us. We all stood there for a bit and finally an employee comes up and I hear him say to the guy, we close at 8:00 will you be done by then… the guy says he’ll get it to go. The employee takes his order then says he’s be back to get ours. We waited a few mins and he came back. First thing he says is “you know we close at 8:00 right? will you be done by then?” I look at him in disbelief, turn to my kids and see the fear in their eyes like mom don’t…. so I take a breathe and say “well, will you have our food cooked and ready by then?” the employee says we should have it done, then I replied, “well then I guess we’ll have to be done.” I don’t normally make it a practice to stop at restaurants that are in process of closing for the night as I know there’s alot involved in cleaning up, but with 40 mins left in a resturant that serves food that’s already prepared….. Anyways, not impressed with staff and most likely won’t be back especially not if it’s after 7:20pm.

They have the same great food. But they need to bring back table service. The Avanti’s in Peoria still has it and we love it.

I love Avanti’s. I come here everything I am in town. The food is good. I was disappointed this last time though. I ordered a turkey and cheese sandwich no lettuce for my trip home, and when I opened it up it was a turkey and tomato sandwich. Maybe someone else’s order, but it wasn’t mine.

It made me sad, but I was able to give it away. It did not get wasted.

I have been here only twice and got the same thing both times. The Gondola sandwich is very good and way worth the price. Nothing there seemed to be too expensive. The 1st time we went was with my family of 5 and my daughters softball team and their families. They were loud and playing around but the staff was very cool about it and let them have fun even though they could not even hear us order. Anyways, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone
