We ordered the chicken mandi and the chicken had a very strong odor it literally smelled like 2 weeks old chicken. When I went to speak to them, the woman named Elyna completely refused to acknowledge the smell. The customer service was terrible. I don’t know how old that chicken was, but it smelled so bad it was hazardous and we couldn’t even eat it. She wasn’t willing to replace the order, and I even offered to pay half just to get a fresh plate. Very disappointing experience. And employees don’t know how to talk to their customers they’re disrespectful terrible terrible terrible experience!!!

Absolutely disappointed, ordered chicken shawarma meal and the chicken is so dry and hard and tasteless, wrap had pickles and onions to make it better but it did not help, the fries literally stick together, just overall not good at all, go somewhere else for chicken shawarma. This is sad if you think this is what your customers want. Please do better and cook your food on less time give people fresh fries. I didn’t pay $30 for food that doesn’t even taste good and you guys did not put any care or thought when packing the food, you just threw everything in the box and called it a day. Both boxes left untouched cause it’s not even edible and good.

We got a mutapq, hummus, and baba ghanouj. The mutapq was delicious: crispy on the outside with a savory, well-spiced filling of chicken and cheese, a well-received deviation from the traditional version. Their freshly baked samoon bread was also lovely. The hummus, while being a bit grainy and bland, was at least palatable. However, the baba ghanouj was rough. I don’t mind a rustic, chunky baba ghanouj but not when eggplant is undercooked. The dip was full of undercooked eggplant chunks, which made it a fibrous, bitter, and unpleasant mess. To make matters worse, there wasn’t enough seasoning or acidity to somewhat mask out the bitterness. The random bits of eggplant skin only made the texture more awkward. They seem to excel when it comes to traditional Yemeni staples but really falls short when it comes to other dishes. I probably need to come back and try more of their Yemeni offerings for a fairer assessment but this visit honestly wasn’t it.

It was a great experience for us. The restaurant is super clean and quiet. The food is fantastic. You can see it from my pic: it was so good that I even forgot to take photos before I started eating! The plate was so big that my friend has packed out half of the food for another meal. Will recommend the place.

During ISNA weekend we visited Taza Bakery and I have to say I have mixed feelings about the experience. We ordered a mandi combo with chicken and lamb. The rice was decently seasoned, but it wasn’t the best mandi I’ve had—there were no fried onions or toppings, so it felt a bit basic. Honestly, it seemed like a budget-style mandi, but the price was full, which was a little disappointing.
We also tried chicken on hummus, which was okay. The chicken itself was fine, and the hummus was decent, nothing remarkable. On the other hand, the chicken fahsa was really good, and it came in a hot, boiling bowl, which was a nice touch and kept the dish warm throughout the meal. Even better was the beef mutabak—that was delicious, and I’d definitely order it again. They serve fresh bread, but it came out cold, which unfortunately threw off the experience a bit.
The service was okay—not bad, but not exceptional. A nice touch was that they had white sauce on the table, which was convenient. The place was pretty busy, with a lot of people coming in and out. One minor issue was that the tables were pretty small, making it a little tricky to maneuver all the dishes on the table. It also wasn’t the cleanest environment, which is worth noting.
Overall, I’d say this place is hit or miss. Some dishes, like the beef mutabak and chicken fahsa, were excellent and worth trying, while others, like the mandi and chicken on hummus, were just okay. The pricing felt a little high for what you get, and the environment could be cleaner, but if you’re in the area and craving Middle Eastern food with a Hyderabadi touch, it’s worth a visit.

If you’re craving authentic Yemeni food in Chicago, Taza Bakery and Hadramout Restaurant is such a hidden gem. The moment you walk in, you can smell the fresh bread baking, and that alone already wins you over. Their lamb mandi is incredibly tender and full of warm, fragrant spices, and the rice is fluffy and flavorful without being greasy. I also loved the fresh tandoor-style bread — soft, slightly chewy, and perfect for scooping up everything on the plate. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere feels simple and welcoming. It’s the kind of spot you go to when you want real, comforting food that feels homemade.

We ordered lamb zurbian and the meat was so bad full of fat and some cheap bad quality meat. As we requested them to get good piece of lamb, they just got a small tiny piece of lamb meat. Why would anyone spend $25 for such bad meal. I will never recommend.

Had an amazing experience at Taza Hadramout The burger was juicy with a soft, buttery bun and perfectly crispy, seasoned fries — super satisfying. I also tried the hummus with lamb, and it was incredible! The lamb was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the creamy hummus.
The service was fantastic — friendly and attentive — and the food was ready in just 15 minutes. Everything was fresh, tasty, and well-presented. Definitely coming back
