I had to add a glass of water twice. They were not that busy for a Friday night.
Steak dinner is such a great value. One of the last places around that still has a salad bar!
They also had a pickle pizza that I’m hoping comes back around.
10/10 would recommend if you enjoy supporting local businesses with history and vintage vibe.
The first clue that something was wrong was when my husband noticed a page of his menu was missing. When we handed them back to the waitress, we kindly mentioned that it was missing a page and she thanked us and kind of brushed it off by saying something along the lines of, ‘oh, there’s a lot of changes going on, it’s just a thing’.
We enjoyed our salad (though my husband was disappointed that his bowl of Caesar salad was quite a bit smaller than the plates provided for the salad bar that the rest of us had opted for), and some of us enjoyed the cheesy bread (my mom was disappointed that the bread was so thin, because the menu’s picture of cheesy bread was much thicker). We had also noticed the small appetizer plates were pretty filthy on the bottom, so they left dirty spots on each other when we received them stacked. We didn’t mention it, giving the benefit of the doubt at the time.
However, when we received our meals, the tops of all 4 of our dishes had these dirty marks/streaks on them, touching our food! The plates were not stained, as the grease wiped away with napkins. We kindly told our server that all of our plates were dirty, and we were concerned. She called her lead over (not sure if she was the manager or a supervisor) and she went on to explain that the pizza oven leaves the black residue on everything in the kitchen! She said it was normal (though we had never had this happen before at this restaurant or any other pizza restaurant), and she also commented that it can’t be helped because when the dishes are washed together it just sticks to everything. We were really concerned by this, so when she asked what we wanted her to do about it, we were honest and said we would like to eat dinner elsewhere. We were kind and tried to be discreet as to not bother other customers eating their meals, but she loudly asked the server to remove all of our plates and was flat out rude in doing so.
We had every intention of paying for our drinks, salads and cheesy bread; but there was no opportunity to do so because we very quickly felt unwelcome. It was a very uncomfortable situation to be in, but we were glad to eat dinner off of clean plates at another pizza restaurant in town.
