Reviews
Coming from Vaughan, we did find the prices quite expensive ($180 before tip) compared to what we’re used to, but I suppose that’s expected since it’s the only dim sum spot around. Overall, the food was decent and pretty authentic, and it definitely satisfied our dim sum craving while in Cambridge.
These guys really know how to cook with just the right amount of spices to bring out the perfect flavors. People/Staff are super nice as well, very very polite and professional. The staff is also really knowledgeable about flavors and food and – for the undecided ones or for those that like to mix and match – might even help you select the dish !
The interiors are also classy, authentic, well-kept and safe – somewhere you feel safe to take your parents. Parking could be a concern on busy evenings but on a positive note, we arrived at an evening hour and got a chance to see a most beautiful tree right above where we parked. It was almost like in the movies, that perfect Japanese/Chinese cherry blossom tree.
That said, since there is construction happening around the place GPS can get confused so “driver discretion” is advised – but that should be a temporary thing.
All in all, a warm and cozy experience.
Being a Sunday the place was very crowded
The ambiance was good though a bit crowded and noisy
The washrooms were in the basement so quite inconvenient
The service reasonably good as it was crowded and the servers were busy
The food was very average
The dim sums, spring rolls, Buddha delight entree and fried rice
The chicken was too sweet
Definitely not for vegetarians or vegans as every single dish every main dish or appetizer even vegetarian stuff had fish sauce and fish garnish on it
There’s no concept of vegetarian or vegan here
The food is okayish too
The shrimp were perfect, large and juicy! At the time I ordered, the server said, “Oh! There are twelve shrimp!” Of course, having heard that and seeing the size of them, I just had to count! I got 13… counted twice! Nice!
Oh, what I wouldn’t give to find out how they make the sesame walnut paste that coats the shrimp and is over the top yummy!
I did takeout and asked how long it would take, did I have time to walk Storm, my husky-mix? Five to ten minutes! Great!
I set my timer for five and we were back in four minutes! The smiling server came jogging out with my Sesame Walnut Shrimp nicely packaged up… piping hot! He even had time to pat Storm before my timer went off! Service par excellence!
PS. The Cameron is right on the bus/light rail route… which is really handy, but makes doing a left turn into the parking lot a challenge. If you come at it on Cameron St, turn left off Cameron, just before Charles St, and squeeze through the narrow, one way entrance into the parking lot.
The exterior of the restaurant looks a bit run down, but the interior is well decorated and looks quite nice. I suppose this is what is meant by “don’t judge a book by its cover”.
We ordered 6 dim sums costing about $67. Our biggest gripe was the cost and amount of food per serving. For instance, the three taro spring rolls tasted great but for the price, an extra fourth spring roll would be reasonable.
In summary, I have two perspectives: On one hand, as someone that lives in York Region, it felt like a tourist trap; I’ve had quality dim sum for cheaper where I live. On the other hand if you reside in Kitchener then it hits the dim sum cravings perfectly, there honestly is nothing better, as far as I’m aware. We came around 12:00 and the place was already packed, the free parking lot was also full, so the place is quite popular among locals.
We got 6 dishes. Har Gow, Sui Mai. Beef Balls. Shrimp rolls. Calamari. Shrimp rice rolls. Came out to $60 taxes in not including tip.
Quality of what you get is what you pay for here. They don’t skimp out on fillings and quality.
Parking can be difficult at times but if you’re patient ppl come and go quickly.
It’s a love and hate for me still due to the price lol. Quality is top notch. I’ve only ever came here for the Dim Sum. Never anything else.
There is standard dimsum fare, though it’s only offered on weekends until 2:00pm. It can get quite expensive depending what you are ordering!
They do have a different menu as well for other items. The food is good, but nothing that particular stands out.
