Named “Best French Restaurant, populist vote” by Mpls St. Paul Magazine, Barbette is simply good food, all day and night. In France they call it a brasserie– the welcoming and eclectic atmosphere works for just you, a book, and an espresso, or for an important celebration with friends and family. We call many local farmers friends and in addition to a wine list that will put you over the moon, we offer many gluten-free and vegetarian options. We love it when you’re here. Come on in.
All-day neighborhood bistro with a vibrant, hip ambiance presenting French fare & live music.

Decent food but overpriced. Typical for uptown. Interacting with customers in a dining room setting should demand a certain degree of personal hygiene and I think employees should be required to present themselves in a manner consistent with the environment they are working in. Is that weird? Am I just too old? Maybe, but for me It’s not “edgy” it’s offputting

Food is great. Ordered oysters (very fresh and juicy, especially the west ones), Cobb salad (I like the meat, avocado and goat cheese), short ribs (very tender), and crème brulee (wonderful texture ).

Thank you, Barbette, for being a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. We moved nearby during Covid and you have been a constant for quality food, cocktails, champagne, and outdoor seating. And you are true to everything that a classic French bistro should be. Today’s Croque Madame was a real surprise — the best we’ve ever had. The Salad Nicoise is consistently good; today’s tuna addition was especially fresh and yummy!

Amazing food and service. It was on a busy Friday evening that we went there. Didnt have to wait too long for our food though. Food was so good! Worth every penny spent!

The hostess was so helpful in accommodating our group which changed in size. Our server Emily was fantastic-attentive, friendly and on the ball! Everyone’s drinks, food and dessert were delicious! So fun to spend the evening in a cozy, quality restaurant like Barbette.

We have eaten many dozens of dinners, breakfasts and lunches at Barbette since it opened 25 years ago. There is a reason it’s been in business for 25 years as it is consistently excellent with typical neighborhood – bistro French type cooking, not a ‘foodie’ destination place but with reliably well-prepared food that varies from very good to outstanding at times. It is a welcoming place with many regulars. It’s noisy but not intolerably so like many places have become. The service is always very professional and friendly. And the wine list is one of the better-chosen ones in town, though as with most any restaurant one would wish for a larger selection under 50 bucks. But the corkage is also fair if you wish to bring your own.

Great place for french cuisine. The atmosphere is lively, but you can still have a conversation. The lighting and dacor, aresubdued, and intimate, very versatile, for dinner with friends, or for two with your spouse! We were redoing our anniversary, the manager had bubbles on the house, and a dessert too! Very classy, servers were warm and engaging!

Came here for my birthday. The server was attentive and accommodating. We ordered the pâte off-menu. The food was delicious! Everything was made in-house.
But as the server came to return my card, we see a rat run across the floor. The server said they’re working with a pest control company. Of course we still tipped her, as it’s not her fault.
As we’re leaving we notice several repairs need to be made to the exterior of the building. Pest control can only do so much when there are several holes for rodents to continue entering the building through.

A disappointing brunch to say the least. Upon entering there was a musky/ moldy smell that was an instant turn off. The decor was tacky, literally, with an awkward line of paintings across the wall by some local abstract artist; the rest of the wall was empty with the exception of empty wall anchors.
Besides the atmosphere, the drinks were also a huge let down. We tried the house chai and Thai coffee, the chai was 2/3 foam, lukewarm, and flavorless. The Thai coffee was even worse- Im not sure why it’s even called Thai coffee or what compelled me to order it from a “French” restaurant, so maybe that’s on me.
Lastly, the food was overpriced and mediocre at best. We tried the Niçoise, which was incredibly bland, and the smoked salmon looked as though it thawed a few hours earlier. We also tried the Croque Madame, which wasn’t terrible, but was again overpriced and underwhelming.
For what it’s worth, the service was fine and despite the smell, nothing was utterly disgusting. Simply put, there are far better brunch options in the area at this price point; and having heard such high praise for Barbette, I was really surprised with how mid the experience was.
