What stands out the most is how accommodating and professional the staff is, especially when I bring large parties. Organizing big groups can sometimes be challenging, but the team handles everything smoothly and with such kindness and patience. They are attentive without being overwhelming and always make sure everyone feels taken care of.
The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The portions are generous, and whether it’s hibachi steak and shrimp, fried rice, or sushi, the quality never disappoints.
After coming here for years, I can confidently say the service, food, and overall experience have remained consistently excellent. I highly recommend Otaki Japanese Steakhouse to anyone looking for great food, fun vibes, and exceptional hospitality.
Kayla B, our waitress, was great and very attentive and conscientious. Drinks were never empty and dishes were moved out of the way as soon as we finsihed them. The hibachi chef was very entertaining but the show seems to be exatly the same at every Japanese steakhouse. The kids love it, so I guess that’s what matters!
The bill was a bit more than expected as there was a hidden upcharge that I wasn’t aware of. The steak and shrimp, as well as, the steak and scallops meal both have an upcharge of $7 for filet. Each beverage is now $5 (tea/soda/lemonade) and a 20% gratuity is automatically charged. NO WHERE was it posted about upcharges nor the automatic gratuity. BEWARE!
It did not work.
The service was great! The waitress was very friendly and helpful. The drinks were strong and the food was oh so tasty.
Nom nom nom
I inhaled my entire dinner while my wife picked at her food deep in thought.
I was so satisfied that I almost shed a tear on the way home.
My wife did cry on the way home.
Sigh.
Highly recommend Otaki – doesn’t quite replace a beloved dog though.
Sigh.
I recommend the SKRIMP, Chicken, and steak.
Perfectly cooked all around. Most tender chicken I’ve ever had.
Wish our dog could have tried it.
We both had hibachi.
* The meal was a 3. It met expectations but was not “very good” (4) or “exceptional” (5). Neither was it “I would be willing to eat it…” (2) or “avoid” (1). It just was not a very memorable meal.
* The service was a 2. Beverages were $4.50/ea and we were not offered refills. There was a feeling of being rushed out the door. This is because within minutes of the hibachi chef walking away everyone was brought their checks, even though we had just received our proteins ~4 minutes earlier. They also automatically add a service charge starting at parties of 4.
* The atmosphere was a 4. Met expectations, decor was flattering, plenty of space for people to move, clean.
I suggest that you try them as you may enjoy your experience more. We felt it was average.
I drove a long way to try Otaki Steakhouse based on the reviews, and honestly, I’m extremely disappointed. The customer service was awful from the moment I walked in. I stood at the front with no greeting or acknowledgment until I said something to the host.
After placing my order, I noticed a 10% fee added to my total. I asked where that was listed, and the host picked up a menu to show me—but it wasn’t there. I explained that customers should be informed, especially when it’s not clearly stated anywhere online or on the menu.
While I was ordering, a couple came up asking about a 20% gratuity fee added to their check, since I was standing next to her, I decided to chime in and let her know the menu and website say it’s only applied to parties of four or more. The woman agreed that something was off and said she didn’t appreciate the server adding it without saying anything, because she would’ve tipped more. Clearly, there is confusion and inconsistency around fees, and it’s frustrating for customers.
Then when my food came, I checked it and asked for teriyaki sauce and my receipt. The ignorant black girl with dreads and a red wrap handed me my food looked visibly annoyed and acted like I was inconveniencing her. I also asked about the portion because for $34, there was barely a spoonful of steak and chicken. Her response was, “Ma’am, I just work here. If that’s what they gave you, that’s what they gave you.” No accountability, no effort, no care. I had to collect myself because I almost took it there. The disrespect was unnecessary and unprofessional.
After seeing reviews on Facebook and Google, I really wanted to give this place a fair chance — but never again. Between the terrible service, unclear fees, and overpriced, small portions, it’s not worth it. I’ll stick to Wasabi at the Town Center. They’re decent enough.
UPDATE: Food (Steak and chicken hibachi) is edible but not worth the hype or price. Every single thing is bland. What gives it taste is the teriyaki sauce and shrimp sauce.
