I visit this restaurant frequently, and I recommend it for all the people who like the Mexican food. The place is big and has three areas, and a bar. One of the areas is outside and it is great during summertime. The food is good and priceless, you can enjoy many plates for under $10. The staff is usually kind and fast. I don’t have complaints about this restaurant, so if you are in Southern Illinois, near to Anna, you can enjoy a good Mexican food here.

Great Tasting Real Mexican food.
Chips came to the table warm with side of salsa and side of queso.
Menu has a lot to choose from.
Had the chicken fajitas burrito. Tasted fresh and also the sides were good too.
This place has been in buisnness for over 20 years and it shows. A real authentic Mexican restaurant in Southern Illinois.. Awesome find.
Only 4 stars because of they service after getting a table. It was a busy Saturday evening but I shouldn’t have to hunt down my waiter for my bill.

We were seated immediately. The waitress that seated us failed to tell the young ladies waiting tables that she seated us. The waitress was running around crazy trying to keep up. After waiting 40 min and still hadn’t even taken our drink order we stopped her. She apologized and took our drink order and our food order. We didn’t wait anytime before our meal was served. And it was served warm. Not hot! But warm. Usually fajitas come out sizzling. No not this time. It was as if it an been put in a microwave. We ate. Didn’t complain. We got our check and left. Did give the waitress her tip. One thing I know for sure is they don’t pay her enough. Not for what she was doing by herself. And not sure I will ever go back. There will be new Mexican restaurant opening up in town soon. Pretty sure they will get my business before El Jalapeno does. Went back to El Jalapeno for dinner with dad for Father’s Day. Food and service much better. Picture shows what’s left of my tamale dinner. It was really good.

The food was good. The server 1991 was not. The waitress that was working the floor with him ran circles around him helping her patrons. She even came and picked up our credit card and said she would find our waiter. He did have a table of 8 come in but, it wasn’t until we had been ignored pretty much the whole visit.

Great atmosphere, good beer selection and very friendly service, but I’ve got to be honest, the food was just ok. Got the fajita salad and the steak had no flavor, and the tostada shell was more rubbery than crispy. The guacamole was too oniony and didn’t have any lime in it. I’ll give it another shot, but was hoping the food would be better. Great outdoor seating area though.

We went to enjoy a family dinner and they were so nice! She noticed we hadn’t been waited on and came to take care of us. We ended up getting free drinks, cheese dip and desert. We always enjoys going there and tonight proved how they care about their service. Letting us have a great dinning experience.

If I could rate this establishment a zero, I would! We had received good reviews on this place from locals, but when we walked in with our party of 12 and was seated on the patio, our waiter acted as if he didn’t want to be there and definitely did not want to serve us. We waited for over 20 minutes to receive water. We placed our drink and food order together to save time, and never received them. We had to walk inside and ask for napkins and silverware, as well as check on our water and drinks. Our waiter was removing his apron and walking out of the area when we walked in to check and never saw him again. The restaurant was not very busy and there was no reason to neglect our group. We elected to leave due to very poor customer service. I would not recommend this restaurant ever!!!! If you want great customer service and awesome food and drinks, go to The Brick House just down the road on South Main St!! The owner and staff will treat you right!!!

I do like this restaurant. I think the owner has definitely made this his own and it has flourished over the years. One thing that erks me a little is when I get a waitress or waiter who doesn’t speak English completely and order taking almost turns into a game of charades. Most of the time my orders are always correct with little to no mess ups with a party of 5 normally. Their staff is usually attentive. There are some times when I do feel like they are either understaffed or uneducated or incapable due to the language barrier if the restaurant becomes too busy. They do offer alcoholic drinks with different days offering different specials. Their food seems to always be amazing to me. Food is always hot and fresh. Its a good place even to take the kids and be able to have a nice family sit down meal and be able to talk and have fun while waiting on our food to come. Def would recommend and definitely will be going back soon whether it’s for dine in or carry out.
