China Sichuan occupies a surprisingly elegant space in Sandyford, offering a refined take on Sichuan cuisine. The restaurant immediately impresses with its generous interior, where there’s genuine breathing room between tables.

The atmosphere strikes a balance between sophisticated and comfortable, making it suitable for both business dinners and relaxed weekend meals.

The service deserves particular praise. Staff members are attentive without being intrusive, striking that difficult balance of being present when needed but never hovering. They’re genuinely courteous and seem to take pride in the restaurant, offering helpful suggestions when asked and checking in at appropriate intervals. It’s clear the team has been well-trained and actually cares about the dining experience.

The menu itself is thoughtfully curated, featuring dishes that will satisfy discerning palates. Rather than overwhelming diners with endless options, China Sichuan focuses on quality over quantity. The selection spans from prawns to duck, with excellent chicken and sole options for those preferring milder flavors. Notably, there’s a dedicated gluten-free menu with a generous selection of items, a welcome consideration for diners with dietary requirements. This thoughtful approach ensures everyone can enjoy the full range of flavors without feeling limited to one or two token dishes.
Portion sizes hit the sweet spot. You’ll leave satisfied but not uncomfortably full, which feels refreshing. Each dish arrives properly plated, and the portions allow you to enjoy multiple courses without feeling obligated to roll yourself out the door afterward.

The quality of ingredients shines through consistently. Everything tastes fresh, and the kitchen demonstrates a light touch with seasoning, where flavors are clean, distinct, and genuinely delicious. The dishes showcase the natural flavors of prawns, duck, and fish, enhanced rather than masked by the cooking technique and spice combinations.

Even the desserts merit attention. They’re distinctive and flavorful, steering clear of generic offerings. While portions might be slightly smaller than some would prefer, it’s hardly a significant issue, particularly after a proper meal. The desserts feel like a genuine conclusion to the dining experience rather than an afterthought.

The main drawback is practical rather than culinary: parking in the area is limited. If you’re driving, plan to arrive with extra time to find a spot, or consider alternative transport options. It’s an unfortunate reality of the location rather than anything the restaurant can control.

China Sichuan proves that Chinese cuisine can be both authentic and refined, satisfying serious food lovers without alienating those seeking approachable dishes. The combination of spacious surroundings, attentive service, quality ingredients, and thoughtful cooking makes it worth the trip to Sandyford, just sort your parking situation first.

Adorable spot with great Chinese food! We didn’t have a reservation, but they were able to accommodate us. The staff were attentive and efficient. Will be back to try other things on the menu. We had the lettuce wraps, chicken spring rolls, egg fried rice and the aubergine in chill ginger and scallion.

Had several meals over the years – most recently a few days ago – here and always a very high standard. Definitely recommend.

The food here is exceptional. This is a must visit for anyone looking for delicious, high quality Chinese cuisine. It’s a lovely place to dine though it can get a bit noisy at times.

Dinner for two with starters, main, dessert and glass of wine (each) came to just under €140. We showed up on a Friday evening with no reservation and were able to fit in (within a timeframe to leave) so quite accommodating. Maybe for larger parties, best would be for sure to book ahead and make that reservation call. Staff very friendly, food was all delicious. Wine a bit expensive but seems to be aligned with others in Dublin so can’t really point a finger here. All summed up to an enjoyable experience. Parking available on street as per any other public parking: you might or might not get a spot and paid within certain times of day.

The empty containers should say it all We are visiting from the states and decided on this place based on the reviews. It’s not big for eating in, everyone else was picking up take-away and the staff seemed surprised that we intended to eat in. Apparently we walked into the to-go side and not the sit-down restaurant so that was our mistake. But there are a few tables and a barstool height counter round the edges and the staff were so accommodating when they realized we were firm on staying. I had the ginger and scallion prawns with fried noodles and my partner had kun-pow chicken with steamed rice. The food came out within minutes and there was nothing left, as you can see from the picture. Everything was hot and delicious and I would definitely come back!

Truly mind-blowing food. Every dish has perfect balance between having a nice kick without drowning out flavor. Our first visit. A shared starter was like no other crab dish we have ever had, truly special. A main dish of Black Sole seems to be a signature dish (and most expensive item on menu) but could have easily been a shared dish also. We did also have a beef dish which was tender and again excellent. Our servers Vilk, Namu and Conall were abl to guide us through menu and wine suggestions. We opted for drinks from a cocktail menu rather than dessert. If ever looking to break out of Dublin City Centre, well worth the 30 minute ride on the Luas (Light Rail) for something truly unique. We will be back. To avoid disappointment do reserve in advance, even on a Tuesday night Dinner Service was busy.

China Sichuan Restaurant is a fantastic choice for a special occasion or a treat. It’s definitely a step up from your typical Chinese restaurant in terms of ambiance and price, but the experience is well worth it.
I’ve dined here several times, and each visit has been consistently excellent. The food is bursting with flavor, and the staff are both friendly and professional. It’s hard to recommend just one dish, as everything I’ve tried has been delicious. My only minor cons is the limited parking during lunchtime, but it’s usually easier to find a spot in the evening.

The restaurant is roomy and bright, the service was flawless, it is a bit on the pricey side but the food is well worth it!
The cocktails are tasty and not too sugary. If you like spicy food you will enjoy it a lot, but there’s also non spicy options for the sensitive eater like me.
Well worth a visit!
