We recently dined at Chavez Mexican Restaurant and returned a week later just for margaritas and chips. All four of us really enjoyed our meals—the warm chips and margaritas were especially good. The atmosphere is very nice and welcoming. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Rockford!

Hey Everyone,
I was treated by my alumni dear friend and so I definitely took photos of the menu for you to see the food and prices. Not only that but for you to make up your mind if you wanted to carry out your food and take it home! But I will say that your portions will be bigger eating in is my opinion! My experience there was another great one! It was my third time so, I don’t know about you but it’s time for them to get my review. Since I didn’t do it the first time. Every time I drove by I wanted to go in but sadly, I passed by it instead. Until a few weeks ago, I finally was able to eat their good food and receive their great service! The shredded chicken nachos is my favorite there so far and the portion for the price was perfect! It had corn, shredded red cabbage on top too! (see photo). There is a bar that you can get your drinks right when you walk inside before entering into the eating area that has a high ceiling and is very spacious. The servers there are very nice and considerate. I will be back sooner than you think!

I ordered the Burrito Mexico with a side salad and liked it. Good food, nice place and it was clean.

Chavez Mexican Restaurante is an amazingly put together restaurant. The friendly staff provide prompt and excellent service. The pipin’ hot food comes out fresh with great flavors and a multitude of choices on the menu to choose from paired with curated photo examples. The surrrounding atmosphere is very cozy and nicely decorated, the design of the restrooms are most impressive and very modern. Id highly recommend anybody to come and eat here, the only problem this place suffers from is its location,if it were further east along east state I’d have no doubt in my mind that this would become the next hit spot to be.

They catered my 200+ person wedding, including cocktail hour snacks and full service dinner. It was incredible! The food was delicious and we had many guests talk about how great it was, but they also just went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Jose was in communication with me every step of the way, made everything so easy, and was so quick to respond to any questions I had. Highly recommend for any catering needs!

I honestly don’t get the hype. I ordered the lunch burrito. The boring burrito was covered in gritty tomato and chili paste sand, swimming in a boat of grease. The only flavor the rice provided was “old.” The beans tasted like they went straight from a fat free Great Value can straight into the microwave and onto your plate. I took one bite of the burrito, tried eating the equally disappointing rice and beans until I had to call it quits over being entirely underwhelmed. My husbands fajitas came out on a plate…that was new. I get the desire to want to set themselves aside from the 3,987 other Mexican eateries in this region, but it’s just not worth it. I’ve never sent food back, EVER. I was offered the option to pick something else out, but honestly, I had seen and tasted enough. The server then forgot about me at the table as no other refills were offered, though, we paid for my fountain drink. We were a table of two, but were joined by tiny little flies (I saw 4) on the wall next to the table and then the baby ant joined us for the party too. I’m glad we finally tried Chavez. That way we know to never go back.

Place was just ehh. I like to consider myself a Mexican food specialist. Ever since I was a young kid getting his allowance running to the local Mexican restaurant named El Sambrero or Taco loco. Mexican food is my all time favorite food ever. This place here. Is and was a joke. My fajitas weren’t the greatest by far. Rice and beans were horrible. The salsa. As soon as the lady set it on table. I instantly looked at my wife and said holy tomato paste. Which had no flavor at all including the rice and beans. Fajitas were just blah too. Glad we went to know to never go back. You’re paying for the fireplace in the middle to make us feel cozy. Literally all you’re paying for. Horrible service as well. Specially when wife told em her barbocoa was garbage. Don’t see what the hype was and is. Way better places in town. Then this place.

First time and my rice tasted like it had been in their fridge a while .They changed it for me to the red rice (no flavor and also some fridge taste) . The tinga style chicken was hard as when you leave it uncovered on the stove for hours (old) . The waitresses “tutean no hablan de usted , unprofessional for the category of the restaurant you walk in expecting higher. Chips have no taste , seemed commercialized not made there from actual tortillas. Horchata? Water diluted and tasted made from the powder you buy at the store. For Americans this may be an OK place but for us mexicans , not even close. Trying another restaurant next.
