So let me start off by saying they were shorthanded, as there was only a couple servers, a bartender, and apparently somebody in the kitchen cooking. We went with a group of people, and you would think that ownership would know with the chilies in town, the season opener for the Colts, and a convention in town that it would be busy so we ordered a bunch of apps and drinks as far as the apps go the nachos came with stale chips. The chicken wings were OK crispy skin would’ve been nice, but they did have a nice smoky flavor to them. I didn’t try any of the fried ones as far as my personal dinner. I ordered a Reuben shockingly and it was probably the worst Ruben I have ever had one of the others in our group ordered a burger didn’t get cooked the way they asked for it and based on how hard the waitresses were hustling, it was not a good idea to ask for something else as we felt bad for them. I’m not really sure how they got so many five star reviews or people just don’t understand what they’re eating anymore. I really wanted to like this place because I like the fact that I could sit outside.

Nice restaurant directly behind the Holiday Inn and Lucas Oil Stadium very short walk.
Food: Buffalo Chicken Dip – really good, spicy, and cheesy! Good portion to share.
Bourbon Maple Smoked Salmon – for the most part the dish was great. The bourbon sauce was really good also. I think they left the salmon on a little too long because some of it was tough and burnt. That is the reason for the 4 stars.
Service: We had a 4pm reservation ehich is when they open. We had just made it in town from out of state so we were there like 10 mins early. The hostess saw us and let us in even though they weren’t supposed to open for another 5 minutes which was nice of her. Another worker saw her seating us and made it known that it was still 3 minutes before they were technically open. Our server was nice though and made sure to check on us.

Atmosphere: We sat on the outdoor patio on the 2nd floor. It was okay until we started randomly getting swarmed by yellow jackets (at least thats what they looked like). And all you could smell was someone smoking down stairs outside which was totally our fault for wanting to sit outside but it was nice out. I didnt get a good look at the indoor dining area on the 1st level plus it was empty since they had just opened.

Service is very good. Locale is convenient with easy parking for lunch. Found few pescatarian options and no vegetarian sandwich options (didn’t seem willing to accommodate either). Ordered fish and chips – nice size serving but everything was a bit bland and coleslaw was dry. Expensive for lunch plus they added a 3% “convenience” fee when running my card. Hope it was just an off day.

More of a restaurant than a sports bar, they’re more upscale but not expensive. There are several TVs around the restaurant and bar areas. We are here shortly after arriving at our hotel down the alley. While the bar was full, there was still plenty of seating in the dining areas. The hostess found us a spot where he could see the game(s) after several attempts. Didn’t order any drinks even though they had some good specials going on. I ordered the cowboy burger and he got the Chicken sandwich. My burger was cooked to order, juicy and really good. It was big too, I couldn’t finish it. I only wished they had candied the jalapenos instead of the bacon. He liked his chicken sandwich, no complaints whatsoever so A+ there. Our server was pleasant and attentive, even when it got busy as the night went on.

The only thing good that I can say about this restaurant is the service. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and the best part of our experience. The food was overpriced over salty and incredibly small portions. The mixed drinks were watered down to where you might as well just drink a bottle of water. It would’ve been cheaper. My husband had a draft that he couldn’t even finish because it was so bad. He barely even touched it. Do not come here. Do not expect to eat a good meal.

Food is great every time we eat here. This time I tried the steak tacos and they were bomb! But why fries for a side. Throw some chips and queso on there instead. Still delicious and would eat again.

We were waited on by the bartender that was very overwhelmed. The wings were really hot, and I love hot food but these were hot enough they should say something when ordered. Drinks were good until we got a margaritas. It was just lime aid and salt. Asked for it to be remade and it was just as bad. We had to go find water refills, silverware and napkins. Very disappointing

The name “tavern” is misleading but also has similarities of a tavern.

They try to portray a higher class of food than “bar food” but lack the follow thru of a higher end restaurant making “tavern” apply.

The place wasn’t very busy. Yet we was there over an hour.

The macaroni and cheese was delicious! The pretzel was soft but had loads of salt. We always forget to ask for pretzels without salt. The cheese was warm and went well with the pretzel.

I ordered the fish n chips, I asked for the fish to be grilled rather than deep fried. The “chef” said no problem. When it came out it was satisfying to the eyes.

It was when I started eating the fish when I realized I made a huge mistake. The overwhelming amount of salt ruined the flavor. It was perfectly cooked too! The slaw wasn’t overbearing with liquid, it was good. Same with the fries, soft, seasoned well.

Don’t let the above skew your decision of ordering the Fish and chips without breading. You might mention to use no salt or less salt.

Some chefs like to over season food… the one cooking tonight did!

Wrapping up our evening we debated on dessert but the waitress didn’t upsell or ask if we wanted dessert.

The desserts wasn’t on the menu but they had about 6 different ones.

Carrot cake, tiramisu, cheesecake, chocolate mousse cake, to name a few.

The place needs a bit of cleaning around the plants. Lots of dust. The areas the servers worked (pictured) was cluttered, drinks set next to chemicals, and just messy. They need more area to work. The closet next to the station is also disarrayed and disorganized.

Overall for the location and the food, it was good. I was going with a 3 star but the wife said 4.

We’d visit again.

Good food, good service, and a nice atmosphere within a short walk from the Holiday Inn hotels, and the stadium.

The beer selection from the local breweries had some great options. The seasonal food menu selections seemed interesting, though i opted for the classic salmon. A good dish, though it could use more greens.

Overall, a pleasant experience.

Had the fish and chips, fish was over cooked, very rubber texture.
Friendly staff.
Need to work on the lighting, bulbs had a bad strobe effect to them. Hard to read menu and not a nice atmosphere to concentrate in.
