We had the most AMAZING experience at the Alcona Brew Haus today, thanks to another local establishment. I have severe food allergies to Alliums (onions and garlic) so finding a place to eat can be quite the challenge. We originally stopped at Shotmakers and I spoke with the wonderful floor manager, who told me that she could not guarantee that there wouldn’t be any cross contamination. This is something that I fully respect! The fact that an establishment would rather side with caution versus saying nothing. So, she recommended the Alcona Brew Haus, “just down the road”.

Driving into the parking lot, you see many different signs in the yard, but one stood out more than the others. “Vegan and Allergy Friendly Options”, and this was not a play to get folks through the door, this is their philosophy.

Walking in, you are emerged in the warmth of this brewery, with it’s warm brown tones throughout, great tap area, and a picture window view of the beer vats. Since we were getting our food to go, we were seated at the bar to place our order, and this is where our experience took off. We had the opportunity to meet the owner, Sandy! She came to speak to me about what allergies I had, what I could eat, and what precautions they take to ensure that there is no cross, and let’s just say that PURPLE is my new favorite color. So, Sandy took my order, then spoke with the chef to give him a heads up about the order. She then returned back out the dining room so, we could visit and go over the remainder of the menu, and how she developed the processes for her dishes and the alternative replacements for allergens. She then took us on a tour of the remaining areas of the restaurant, and I must say, this place is a must visit!

Now, let’s wrap this up. Sorry, for the length. I ordered the “hamburger” that was NOT a burger. This was a patty compromised of a perfect balance of Chuck, Brisket, and Short Rib. OMG! It was topped with white cheddar and was one of the best burgers I have ever had, and the fries completed the dish.

Again, this place is a must visit! You will not be sorry!

Aubrey was out server. She did a great job advising us on our flight choices and appetizer. It was a quick stop for a snack, but can’t wait to come back for dinner! The pretzel and beer cheese was so delicious! Our flights were a great way to sample many options. I love that they have meads as an option! Super fun atmosphere and staff!

Not sure if it was an off day, 3.5 rating, we’re in harrisville for the weekend and wanted to use our Hop pass, went in for lunch, only 2 other tables we got there at 12:15, they just opened, The owner seated us and was very friendly. The shipwreck lager is my recommendation i give that a 5 star, ordered the special for the day appetizer, smoked cream cheese, it was good, ordered a harbor pizza and a whiskey burger…medium, 40 bourbons on tap I thought the whiskey burger might be fantastic. Pizza was ok, burger was overcooked, dry, and needed more of the sauce. The time it took to get the our order was extremely long. Will have to give them a second chance because I liked the beer

Sooo good! Such great vegan and gluten free options! I had the jackfruit over rice with Brussels sprouts. Bought a couple of pint glasses and the owner gave us a couple of her custom coasters to go with it. Such a cool place. And Logan was a great server!

We were driving by and decided to drop in for lunch. Our service and food were awesome!! Those of us that had beer thoroughly enjoyed them as well. Our waitress was attentive and the owner even stopped by to check in on us. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

It was so wonderful. Hands down the BEST FRIED CHICKEN Sandwich I’ve ever had! It was perfectly breaded, oil wasn’t rancid, the chicken breast was super juicy (which it usually isn’t). And wow, the fries (not usually a fan of bigger fries) but there is an extra ridge that is crisped up and so tasty! 🙂

Partner had the pulled pork; usually pulled pork (especially if not dressed) is sooo dry. The ones here weren’t! Didn’t even need the BBQ but wasn’t the “fatty texture moist”; instead, it was.. just moist and great mouth feel!

For beers, loved the XCYSER Mead! So tasty! So too was the Fool’s Gold Belgian! Delectable! The Alcona Lite is like… but better than … a “bud light” (as per their menu haha).

Great location and very tasty! 🙂 Will be back again!

The most important – they care about your allergies. They have gluten free options that aren’t yucky! They also have vegetarian options that aren’t “just salad”!

I just want to start by saying I’m allergic to shellfish and this is the first restaurant in Northern Michigan I’ve been to that doesn’t serve shellfish and that is this allergy friendly. If you have any bad common allergies this is the place to go! Yes there a little pricey but I think if the foods worth the price it’s worth paying it. 10/10 would recommend to anyone! Family’s included!!!

What a surprise this place was! There’s nothing else like it in the area. I can’t remember the last time I was in a restaurant this clean, seriously. The house made beer was excellent, and the meatloaf my wife had was the best we’ve ever tasted! The owner, Sandy, even came by our table and gave us a tour of the place. We hope to be back many times!

Our waitress was amazing!!! Beer was great and most of our food was good. We sent a burger back for being FAR over cooked after waiting over 20 minutes for our food, so took 10 more minutes to get the replacement burger. The owner Sandy came up to us and ARGUED with us over the burger. Needless to saw the rumors about the owners seem to be true after this unbelievable interaction.
