Tequila’s Mexican restaurant has the Best view on the San Juan River in Pagosa Springs CO. So why on GOD’S green earth wouldn’t you have exceptional service and food. The good: The view. The bad: food, service, margaritas, and atmosphere. We asked if the guacamole was fresh, we were told “yes”. Nope! I can almost bet it was “Great Value” Walmart bought. Chips, from a bag and stale. For Pete’s sake Tequila is the name of the restaurant. Have killer margaritas…nope! Watered down lumpy ice frozen margarita. Horrible! Service was atrocious….our server acted if she didn’t want to be there. I’m Mexican, so it pains me to see such a potential great place have a lack of respect to our culture of delicious food. Waste your money if you want, but I’d stay away from this place. Go to Beny’s down the street if you want really good authentic Mexican food.

All of the one star reviews over water are comical. This restaurant has excellent atmosphere. True Mexican. Service was superb. Our waitress was Carmen and she was just lovely. I got the carne asada/double rice. A few shots of tequila and some margaritas. My husband had carne asada enchiladas and a few beers. We are both just beyond impressed with the tenderness of the asada, overall flavor and experience. Very clean inside and out. Delicious food. Best place we’ve eaten since we got to the resort. The manager was also attentive to our needs and very friendly. Highly recommend it. ⭐️ Enjoy!

Good food – Big portions!
A little bland for me, but I’m a spicy Mexican ️

Beautiful wrap-around deck overlooking the river and hit springs.

Bright colorful artist, tables, family restaurant vibe clean inside and out. Clean bathrooms. Friendly service. People complaining about bottled water are ridiculous. Tap ice water might not be a thing because of the hot springs.

Great people watching spa everybody’s in the hot springs . Entire area has the odor of sulfur. (DUH).

Being along the river was nice. The place had an authentic Mexican feel. But the food didn’t. I was shocked how fast the food came out. It was nice but seemed too fast for a fresh cooked meal. Then once eating we realized why. Everything had a freezer taste to it. I’m not sure if they pre-make and freeze then cook. But thats what it seemed like. Our Chile relleno was not crispy at all, neither was our chimi. And the chalupa was just mediocre. There was no sour cream or guac with your food either. Rice and beans were pretty good. First place to eat in Pagosa and we were not impressed.

I ordered a SHREDDED BEEF chimichanga, but they gave me GROUND BEEF chimichanga. The best dish we got was the green chili burrito. But the chimichanga tasted like SCOOL LUNCH MEAT. We tried to order water, but all they had was PLASTIC BOTTLED WATER! Our waiter was ok. He didn’t look like he wanted to be there, and neither did any of the other waiters. We were the ONLY customers there except for a family of 6. Overall , the food was alright but the service NEEDS IMPROVEMENT.

The food was delicious, except for the chips. We like thin chips. These were really thick. The salsa is spicy! I couldn’t eat a lot by itself. I mixed a little in my queso dip though, also good. I had a cheese enchilada and a spinach enchilada. My boyfriend had a ginormous burrito. His margarita was good and strong. My tequila sunrise was good. What I didn’t like…Prices are high. Our bill was $90. I was charged $1 for water. I asked to substitute a cheaper menu item (cheese for spinach) on one enchilada. I was charged $3.50 for that. Portions were huge, so I had leftovers. The waiter told me he would get in trouble if he gave me enough containers to take home my food. He ignored me the first time I asked. The food was good, but I will not return. Maybe to-go if they offer it. In my hometown, the bill would have been half for the same amount of food. I would have gotten extra chips and salsa to go, a to-go drink, and plenty of containers. I typically tip 20-40% depending on quality and quantity of service. I left about 12% here due to the poor service.

It’s ok. Food servings are generous but it’s ok. You need to be patient coz they are understaffed. Water is not free. You need to pay $1 per bottle water, can’t believe they don’t have water as part of the service. The chips and salsa are fresh. Staff is friendly and patient despite of short staffed. The spot is nice but the food is just ok. One and done for us.

OK sitting at table with five friends in our private alcove at Tequilas’s. Surprised at mediocre reviews as we love it, service is impeccable, inside is comfortable and attractive, and food is tasty (and reasonable given locale). Few of our crowd has been here many times so top review is based on more than today.

Writing before I enter, no matter the food quality this joint at the San Juan River Scenic Overlook in Pagosa Springs is worth a stop. Where else with one 360 degree can you get the essence and vibe of this area. GO.
