Bluff Lake in Maquoketa is a beautiful place to eat. The location is absolutely gorgeous, especially if you enjoy being near the water. The outdoor area is really nice and makes it a relaxing place to sit and for your table inside. The atmosphere is great and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

The food itself was very good. Everything we had tasted great and you can tell they put effort into the meals.

My only downside is the pricing. It’s pretty expensive, especially for families. My 11-year-old wanted both shrimp and chicken, but the only option that included both was the $24.99 all-you-can-eat, so that’s what he had to be charged. The other options were either shrimp or chicken, not both. My daughter 6yro had chicken strips, fries, and cottage cheese, which was $13.99, plus an extra $3 just for the cottage cheese.

For a family of four, our bill came to $114, which is about a third of my paycheck, so unfortunately it’s not somewhere we can visit often—maybe once a year or less.

Overall, it’s a beautiful spot with great food and a great atmosphere. If the prices were a bit more family-friendly, we would definitely come more often.

We came here after a 20-year hiatus and WOW—things have changed, and for the better! The atmosphere is amazing with a cozy fishing-lodge vibe. There’s even a path by the lake where you can walk and feed the fish, plus a nice new gazebo out front. Big improvement: they now take credit cards instead of being cash-only.

The food was absolutely fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and generous portions. The only downside was our server, who didn’t seem very friendly or engaged. We still tipped her 15%, though we normally tip much higher. Hopefully she’ll learn that a smile and some guest interaction go a long way.

That said, sometimes the attitude of the hired help isn’t a reflection of the restaurant itself. Everything else about Bluff Lake Catfish Farm was top-notch, and the updates since our last visit blew us away. We’ll definitely be back and won’t wait another 20 years this time!

Beautiful restaurant hidden in the country, if your not there for the seafood special don’t bother going, long waits for table and the other food on the menu is expensive, dry and bland.

They also have two beautiful outdoor seating areas that are only for waiting for your indoor table

I always go on Friday for the catfish. I get the whole catfish and it is so delish! Whatever they use fir breading is also so good. I’ve gone on other nights too and it’s good every Friday, sat and sun. Husband would get the prime rib on Fridays and he’s always been impressed. Cooked perfectly, and it’s huge. All you can eat too! Waffle fries and coleslaw are good. They have remodeled to fit more people. The outside is so relaxing with tables around the ponds. One has a waterfall, the other you are able to feed the ducks and fish. You want to get there early because it gets very busy. You can possibly wait for an hour for a table but its not a big deal because you can get a drink from the bar and sit inside or outside while you wait, feed the ducks, etc. There’s also a gift shop. Highly recommended!

We visited here on a Sunday morning. They open at 11 but we always show up a bit early to enjoy the scenery and you can get drinks early. We all ordered the all you can eat chicken and shrimp which also comes with fries and coleslaw. Every time we have come here, the food has been excellent. Fresh and hot. The people are very nice and attentive, refilling drinks and food in a timely manner. The cost is $18 a person I believe which is fantastic for all you can eat. If you have never been here, check out their website for different all you can eat depending on the day. Go here if you haven’t, you will not be disappointed. Sorry, no pics of food. Next time we go.

Hidden gem off the beaten path in bluff lake iowa. They have an all you can eat special every nite. Was haddock when we were there last night. May have to wait but the surroundings are beautiful. Dining room is loud and crowded but the food is delicious. You go through a park and then through someone’s farm to get there. Keep going. The fish is worth it.

This a really cool place off the beaten path with an amazing atmosphere where you can be inside or out. Lots of room and great food. We had the special today- all you can eat shrimp, chicken, fries and coleslaw. We ordered a side of catfish- which was good but wasn’t amazing just kinda plain. The shrimp and chicken was great! Coleslaw was really good and I don’t like coleslaw lol. Apparently all you can eat fish on Friday
Definitely will be back when in the area

Went on a Saturday and had all you can eat Haddock with fries and coleslaw. Beautiful restaurant nice setting around the ponds and waterfalls. Food was definitely worth the wait and the drive from Van Horne. Service was excellent. We will be back again for sure on a Sunday for the shrimp

Great food after a bit of hiking. Happened to go when they were offering the bottomless fries, coleslaw fried chicken and shimp meal which was super good.
Was stoked when I saw you could feed their catfish by the restaurant which I did just to digest a bit after eating, would definitely go again.
