Social Profile:

There is a special place in the very heart and soul of Charleston’s Historic District, where a longstanding tradition occurs every evening. At dusk, Peninsula Grill’s copper carriage lanterns are lit by hand—one-by-one—until the courtyard comes alive. Palmetto trees are illuminated and tea lights flicker in this magical twilight tableau. With its resplendent sense of arrival through a garden illuminated by flickering lanterns, iconic velvet-lined dining room, award-winning wine list, and Relais & Chateaux service, Peninsula Grill is where Charlestonians dine in style. And no visit is complete without ordering the legendary 12-layer Ultimate Coconut Cake, Charleston’s most famous dessert.

Renowned hotel eatery serving elevated Southern fare in a roomy, posh space.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Peninsula Grill. While our tomahawk steak took longer than expected to cook, the way the staff handled the situation was beyond exceptional. They graciously comped our meal and, on top of that, surprised us with complimentary caviar and oysters.
It was our anniversary, and this level of thoughtfulness truly felt like a blessing. The service was attentive, kind, and genuinely caring, turning what could have been a delay into a memorable and special celebration.
This is the definition of excellent hospitality. We were so grateful and will absolutely be returning. Thank you, Peninsula Grill, for making our 16th anniversary unforgettable.

We went to Peninsula Grill in Charleston for my wife’s birthday, and the whole experience lived up to the hype. The menu felt like something you could happily get lost in. We ordered rack of lamb, swordfish, roasted oysters, and a few other fun dishes because we wanted to sample as much as we could. Every plate landed perfectly.

The drink list looked incredible too, and even though we were not drinking since my wife is expecting, we were definitely eyeing what the other tables were enjoying.

The atmosphere was calm without feeling stuffy. A couple of families with children were there during the early dinner window, which gave the room a comfortable, lived in feel. Our 530 pm reservation made the whole evening relaxed and pleasant.

If you love food and want a meal that feels a little elevated, with staff who take great care of you, Peninsula Grill deserves a spot on your list.

The Peninsula grill was everything an upscale southern steak house should be. The vibe was classy but not at all pretentious . Our sever Ben was warm and very helpful in guiding our selections on everything from appetizers to wine. The cocktails were fantastic and the steaks perfectly cooked. The warm potato salad was one of the best things I ate in Charleston. And of course, the coconut cake slaps. I would definitely recommend the peninsula grill to anyone looking to have a nice night out in Charleston.

Me: “I’m eating healthy this week.”

Also me: Books dinner at Peninsula Grill

Look—Halls Chophouse brings the swagger. Prime cuts, booming vibe, the steakhouse you flex about.
But Peninsula Grill? That’s Charleston elegance in a bite. History, romance, and a steak so tender it probably writes poetry.

Built in 1844, and currently holding the title of “Charleston’s Most Romantic Way to Ruin Your Diet.” ❤️

The building originally served as a dry goods / clothing store then transformed into a fine-dining landmark. Peninsula Grill opened in 1997, ushering in a new era of upscale Southern dining in Charleston.

The real winner? My taste buds.
My wallet? Not so much.

BYW You may ask where is the picture of my steak? I ate it too quickly to take a picture.

DM PENINSULA for the best cocktail to accompany your steak.

This establishment has been on my list ever since I discovered the existence of the coconut cake. The food was great. I had the steak, smashed potato salad which were both phenomenal. The lobster three ways was also delicious. The coconut cake was heavenly. I definitely understand why it popular. The staff really puts a lot of effort into your experience.

The food here is outstanding. But the service is even better. The wait staff of very attentive and the executive chef even came out to see how the food turned out. I did not get a picture of everything as there were 9 of us. But suffice to say everything was very very good.

Exceptional food. Extremely attentive service. Reasonable portion sizes for fine dining. Outside seating area looked very nice though we sat inside.

We had a reservation so no wait on our table.

General atmosphere/ambience is probably becoming a bit dated but still a quality experience.

We got the lump-crab soup, and lobster 3 way for an appetizer. The scallops and a grouper special for mains courses with sides of brussel sprouts and potatoes. We splurge and grabbed an American Wagyu off the Wagyu menu (not sure if this is a limited thing as it was not in the main menu, they also had options for Japanese A5). Then finished everything off with a slice of the Coconut Cake.

Absolutely no complaints on the quality and flavor of food. We did not touch the Salt or Pepper.

We parked just south at the Cumberland Street Garage for like $8 for the 2 hours.

We knew the food was going to be good, but this place was mind blowing. If I could only come to one restaurant in Charleston, this would be it. From the moment you walk in, you’re treated like an honored guest and every bite of food was bursting with flavor. If you don’t get their world famous coconut cake, you’re really missing out. The scallops and the wagyu were other highlights of the meal. The grouper ceviche was also truly delightful. Impeccable service. 10/10

Enjoyed our meal, very pricy, but we were expecting that. Paul took great care of us! The cocktails were very tasty. The four of us split the Opulent Spud (very good, it’s an experience). We also had the She Crab Soup (ok), scallops (excellent), Butternut & Brussel Sprouts (very good) & Prime Beef Carpaccio (good!) and I can’t remember what the rest of our table had. It was a good meal, I’d probably try a different place the next time I’m in town.
