The theme here is 50’s diner. The decor is cute, but in definite need of a refresh. For example, the booth seats are all ripped. You can see where they have tried to repair them with tape that has also split open. I know that with any building upgrades, the cost of the food is likely to go up. So personally, I will take the inexpensive food with worn-out decor….just letting others know what to expect.
The locations was clean, comfortable, affordable, and most importantly the food was excellent. The quality of service has been unmatched.
The cheesesteak, onion rings, cheeseburger, and pickle chips were an excellent value and perfectly cooked.
We got a shake for dessert and it was really delicious. The total meal was 27 bucks. Blaine away at the places price. Super inexpensive
We will be back
It’s not terrible, mind you, it just doesn’t match up to Five Guys right across the way, or Freddy’s around the corner. The burger has a wide variety of toppings and cheeses, but it’s a sub par piece of meat. Onion rings had a bready coating. They were crisp, but not as tasty as they could’ve been.
The banana split was serviceable, the main problem being the ice cream. I assume it’s the product used in all the desserts, and it’s designated as a custard on the menu, separate from a concrete. The texture of the custard is not very smooth. Tastes all right, as far as it goes, but you can get better.
The decor tries to be nostalgic, but it reaches for a neon kitsch. The counter behind which the food is prepared, looks like a dinner counter for the most part with its tile and chrome, but the placards decorating the lobby are soft focus neon images right from the eighties. Oldies pop songs from the eighties and nineties provide a nice ambience, but this was not worth going back for us.
They serve Pepsi products and everyone we saw was masked. They have platters and Phillies on the menu. For our money, we can get better burgers and desserts elsewhere.
Food was okay nothing special but service was fast. However the custard was delicious I highly reccomend.
Overall very clean and a neat expierence, I would go back for a quick lunch or even just for the custard.
The menu offers up classic diner fare such as cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries, and shakes. All of which are amazing! In a slight twist, they also offer an array of excellent cheesesteaks that are much better than you might expect to get at a diner. If none of these items appeal to your palette, there are options for salads – from garden to Cobb – and grilled and fried chicken along with seafood. If I were to give H55 a tick in the “con” column, it would be the absence of onion rings on the menu. For myself, onion ring has always been THE quintessential side for burgers. If they were to ask me to make any recommendation for their menu, it would be the addition of onion rings.
When you add all of the above with an incredibly friendly and helpful staff – Highway 55 is worth your dining time!
