One of the nicest herring in the city. The fish he uses is really fresh and slightly fatty so it’s very delicious compared to other stalls. Can either have it with bread or on its own. Prices are very reasonable and there’s a small area to sit in if you want to have it in the store. Owner is also really friendly. My favorite herring in Amsterdam.

Small shop in the alley. Can seat about 7-10 people. Perfect for breakfast. Uncle who owns the shop is very very nice. He speaks great English and slowly explain each of his fish and how to eat them. His fish is great! We tried several kind, but we personally love his cod. We kept going back to his shop 2 times out of 3 days that we are in Amsterdam.

The fish are fresh! For only 3.5 euro you can have 2 fresh hering fish already! What a great deal for its location!
Very friendly grandpa and there are few seats available.

Stumbled upon this hidden gem by accident, and it was exactly what I needed after too much fried food. The two friendly guys running the place (maybe one is Rob Wigboldus?) served amazing seafood. The salt-brined herring was so good I returned for more—the mackerel was fresh and generous, the smoked salmon mildly smoky and sweet, and the smoked eel was incredibly meaty and satisfying. This spot truly makes me want to return and dive deeper into Dutch culture.
€5 for the herring and €8 for a plate with 3. Very reasonable price in such a busy area.

Update 2024. We came back to Amsterdam and ate here again. Twice during the same day! Everything was delicious and fresh. We tried 5 different things. Smoked salmon was amazing, tender. Fried cod was delicious too. We will come back next trip as well. It’s our tradition now. Please support this small business ☺️

2023. Delicious and fresh. We tied herring sandwich, smoked eel, crab salad, fried cod, everything was super tasty! Totally will eat here again next time I’m in Amsterdam! Some people complain that cod fish is microwaved, but it is freshly cooked the same day (big amount), it’s very tender. The owner is friendly and kind. There are only 2 tables inside , but people come and go, there’s always a chance to sit and enjoy your snack ☺️
