A Decent Start for a New Spot
We tried Hinoki last night, the new sushi place that just opened up. Overall, it was an okay experience, with some definite highlights and a few areas for improvement.
The best part of the meal was the service. Our server was attentive, friendly, and happy to answer all of our questions. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming, which is always a great start.
The sushi itself was fine, but it didn’t quite stand out. For the price point, we were expecting something a bit more memorable. While fresh, the rolls and nigiri were pretty standard and didn’t have the unique flavors or presentation that you might find at other established sushi restaurants in the same price range.
One thing to note is that they don’t have a full liquor license yet, so your only options are beer, wine, or sake. This wasn’t a huge deal for us, but it’s good to know if you’re hoping for a cocktail with your dinner.
Given that they are a new restaurant, I’m sure they are still working out the kinks. With excellent service as a strong foundation, I’m hopeful that the food will evolve to match. It’s a decent option if you’re in the area, but I’d give them a little time to grow into their own.

I ate their lunch special today. It was awesome. Authentic and delicious! The sashimi and sushi was full of flavor and fresh. You can feel the chef’s effort in the presentation and preparation – the wasabi is fresh made and the ginger tastes like it is made in-house too. The portion size is very generous – see my photos. The bento box will definitely fill you up.
I also ordered the tempura. The shrimp tempura was excellent. The batter was light and cooked to perfection.
Atmosphere and decor is great. Modern and inviting. Service was top notch. I fully recommend this authentic Japanese restaurant!

The food was exceptional: I would highly recommend the ocean trout, wagyu, and flounder. Service was fast and sashimi is prepared in front of you if you sit at the bar. Cocktails are great and priced appropriately. Front staff and sushi chefs made this a wonderful dining experience. Definitely try this place out!

Super fresh sashimi… everything we ordered were of superb quality. California hand roll was made of real crab meat. Salmon teriyaki was very tender. The wasabi was made of fresh wasabi root. The quality is comparable to Dallas Nobu.

This is our new go-to sushi spot. Everything is so fresh and the value is crazy. Sushi is so expensive everywhere. Even the bad stuff. But this is worth every penny. Their tasting menu is a must.

Hinoke offers an elevated sushi menu in a comfortable environment. Service is outstanding and the sushi is high quality. The menu might seem intimidating for those unfamiliar with high end sushi but the staff was so helpful in helping explaining the different offerings and you really can’t go wrong with any of the expertly crafted dishes.

BEWARE! If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Service started out ok. Can’t even blame the female server and host. The issue is the male sushi rollers behind the bar or whatever they’re called. You can see in these pictures what was given to me and my mentee to eat as if we were dogs and not paying customers! We were already waiting for our food (only 2 sushi rolls btw) for almost 20 mins, just for the waitress to come by and tell us that it’s going to take a lot longer for our food. I simply asked why because there were only 3 to 4 groups in the whole restaurant that evening. My understanding from her response was that the Caucasian group that came in AFTER us were ordering sashimi that I guess will take some time and skill and they’d rather work on their order. Mind you there were 4 sushi rollers behind the bar so of course I was confused… I asked how much longer it will take because I had to get my mentee back home. 3 to 5 mins later they brought us what you see in the photos. These don’t look like anything I saw in the reviews before coming. I was mortified but didn’t want to make a scene in front of my mentee who was starving btw. We ate, I paid and left. Regret ever stepping foot in this racist establishment and I’m utterly disgusted with them. I even held on to the menu to possibly order more after trying the first roll. Complete waste of my money.

This place did not disappoint! The service and food were excellent. We tried several rolls and items off the AO Tasting section: the Hama Sho and Sake Dashi is a must try. A great go to sushi restaurant for any day of week. Adding this place into our rotation!

Loved the sushi here. We tried the tempura (off menu), A Five and Sake. Try their secret Raman menu, gotta ask the waiters. Chef and staff were friendly.

Hinoki is under new management by Chef Leo (the mastermind behind Kinzo), and it really shows. The sushi is high quality, the staff is great, and the space has a cozy, welcoming feel. This isn’t a spot for cheap rolls — it’s for people who appreciate real sushi. If you love places like Uchi or Kinzo, Hinoki is right up there. Highly recommend.
