Tapatio Mexican Restaurant – Shawnee, OK
I stopped by Tapatio Mexican Restaurant at 3100 N Harrison St in Shawnee and, as always, had a great experience. The service was friendly and attentive from the moment I walked in.
I ordered my usual unsweet iced tea, and it was fresh and perfectly brewed. For lunch, I decided to try the shrimp quesadilla lunch special — and it did not disappoint. The shrimp were well-seasoned, cooked just right, and packed with flavor inside a perfectly grilled tortilla.
Their chips and salsa are always a highlight. The salsa has a smooth, tasty tomato purée consistency with great flavor — not too spicy, just right. It pairs perfectly with their fresh, crispy chips.
Overall, a solid spot for authentic Mexican food in Shawnee. Consistent quality, great flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back!

I deliver take out orders from here often, so I figured that I should try this place. I ordered the enchilada supreme. The food was a good portion and my favorite enchiladas were the bean one and the cheese. The chicken was very juicy, but the beef was a little salty. The price point was very fair. I would recommend this place and will come back.

This place caught me completely off guard in the best way. I wasn’t even planning to be in Shawnee, just out on a drive for some self-care when hunger hit. I searched nearby spots and saw they had chile verde, which has been a gamble since moving to Oklahoma. Let’s just say… most places have let me down.
Not here. The chile verde absolutely hits. Flavorful, comforting, and clearly made with care, not phoned in or blandly Americanized. It’s the kind of dish that reminds you what it’s supposed to taste like.
The horchata deserves its own shoutout. You can immediately tell it’s fresh made, not that watered-down, powder-mix nonsense so many places serve. Smooth, balanced, and actually refreshing.
On top of the food, the staff is genuinely kind and welcoming, which just seals the deal. I’ll happily make the drive from Broken Arrow back to Shawnee just for this meal. If you’re craving real-deal comfort Mexican food and you’ve been burned before, this spot is worth it. No hype, just solid food done right.

Great food, great service, and a dog friendly patio on a 70° day. It just doesn’t get any better than this. Jordan was my server and he was very attentive and friendly. He just wanted to make sure I enjoyed my lunch.

Pretty busy restaurant when I went but the wait to be seated wasn’t long and service was good. You get hit with the smell of the food when you first walk in and typical decor you would expect for a Mexican restaurant. They bring you chips and salsa to the table. The chips are good nice thickness and crispy. They are good for dipping. The salsa was a little bit sweet and you could taste the tomato base but with a tiny bit of the habanero green sauce that was at the table it balanced it out nicely not making it too sweet, too spicy, or too acidic vinegar. Too much of that sauce added then it over powered the flavor pallet making it too vinegary. I also tried their horchata which I like that he gave me a sample of it first to see if it was going to be to my liking. It’s very good and recommended. As my entree I ordered the vegetarian quesadilla it comes with rice and beans. They load up two quesadillas with seasoned vegetables and a white queso sauce. Very filling and I was able to take half home. Only issue with that was upon reheating that portion I discovered that a small piece of chicken was with it (my fur-babies didn’t mind and they received the treat but given that I don’t eat animal protein if I hadn’t have noticed it before taking a bite I would have been very upset by this mistake) . When I first ate the first part I had opened up the quesadilla to look at all the veggies added because it was quite substantial and not your typical few that you see in a veggie quesadilla. The rice and beans were decent. The other person at the table with me ordered Chili Colorado which is a beef dish in a red sauce. The beef cut was diced smaller than expected and the sauce was thinner than what would have been desired. Other than that it was not bad. It also came with rice, beans, and tortillas.

I order here often! Why? Because the food has always been delicious! I try to order new things each time, but sometimes you just gotta order what you know. Either way, the fries, the Steven special, the chorizo dip all of it has been amazing! The portions are generous. Personally the Papas el Tapatio is ONE of my go to’s:

Went from bad to worse. Started by waiting by the door with 8 other people crowding in as the employees sat a table just watching. We ordered our food and then waited. And waited. And waited. The chips we were given while waiting were old and stale. It took over 30 minutes to get our food. We watched as others around us received theirs. Our server never stopped to refill our drinks or give us an update. I finally flagged someone down and asked how much longer it would be. Within a few minutes we received our food. All 4 meals were cold. 2 of us had ordered the Steven’s Special which is supposed to be chicken, cheese, and rice. What we received was cold chicken thrown on top of a bed of cold dry rice. The tacos ordered had no flavor and were cold. We will not be returning. We had to ask multiple people for the check just so we could get out of there. Poor service. Poor food.

I went in there thinking it was just a typical Tuesday night. Boy was I wrong. That staff took me in like I was family. I felt the warmth that their staff has. By the end of my meal. I was singing happy birthday with them to a entirely different table
