When I asked for a receipt, the lady at the windows pointed to the next window.
When I asked the kid for a receipt he huffed and puffed and said the lady who took my order should have given to me.
I said that she did not and said that you would give me one.
He stormed off again and said, upon his return, I dont have it.
I requested that he get one.
This wouldn’t be such a big issue, however, twice I was charged for something that I did not order from the McDonald’s in Tupelo MS.
He brought me the receipt, without looking at me and handed to me as though he didn’t have the time nor effort to be wasting it on me.
I normally ride with someone so I can go through the drive-through safely. I ordered a hot fudge sundae with hot fudge on both the top and the bottom. The person on the speaker said they could do that. No hesitation. No issue.
When we got to the window, the person driving me told me there was absolutely no fudge on the bottom, just on the top. I hadn’t touched it yet, so I asked them to remake it. We drove around, and they handed me the second sundae. This one was honestly disgusting. The ice cream was so watery it didn’t even feel like ice cream. It tasted like melted milk. The hot fudge was thin, runny, and tasted more like cheap chocolate syrup than actual hot fudge. The whole thing was warm, soupy, and completely inedible.
So I went around again to ask them to fix it. I explained that I am blind and only took one bite just to check it. I can’t see what I’m being handed the way everyone else can. And instead of understanding, both the employee and the manager immediately started yelling at me. Not talking firmly. Not explaining. Actually yelling. They told me they weren’t going to remake it again, that the hot fudge “comes like that,” and that there was nothing they were going to do.
In that moment, I felt humiliated. Being yelled at through a drive-through window while I’m trying to explain that I physically can’t see the food I’m being given made me feel degraded. It was like they didn’t care that I’m blind. It was like they were annoyed at me for needing to ask for something to be done right. I felt singled out, talked down to, and completely powerless. Sitting there in a situation where I already rely on someone else to help guide me, and then being treated like I was a problem, was honestly heartbreaking. I felt myself getting smaller and smaller while they kept raising their voices.
I asked for a refund after they refused to remake it again. They still yelled at me and said no, telling me that because I took one bite, they weren’t refunding anything. This was after they made it wrong twice. And then they kept my receipt, so I didn’t even get to keep proof of the purchase.
By the time I left, I felt shaken, embarrassed, upset, and honestly degraded. I have never been treated like that over something so small, and especially not after explaining that I am blind and was only trying to make sure I got what I paid for. It made me feel like my disability was being held against me.
I will be calling customer service to report the whole experience, and I will never go back to that McDonald’s again. If a business can’t fix a three-dollar mistake or treat a blind customer with basic decency and respect, then they will not get another dollar from me.
To make things worse, the manager was loudly yelling at employees in front of everyone, creating a chaotic and unprofessional atmosphere. No one seemed to care about the customers at all.
This location is a complete embarrassment to the brand. I’ll drive out of my way before I ever come back here.
