We were greated by an older Italian gentleman (owner) speaking Italian when we walked in. Was sat down with red ambiance lighting which really sets the mood with you and the spouse. In the background you hear Italian music with the smell of Italian food over loading your nose sensors. Fresh bread is brought out loaded with garlic and herbs. The bread had a nice crunch but nice and soft in the middle with very herby savory flavor. We ordered the escargot and it came out on a small dish with 6 snails soaked in garlic in herb with a slice of lemon on time. This melted in our mouths and was excellent. My wife had the the meat balls and pasta with vodka sauce. Probably some of the best I have ever had! Very creamy tomato sauce with an amazing blended meat ball of pork and beef. I ordered the veal parmesan and it came with a side alfredo noodles and prosciutto ham. Definitely the best I have ever had. The veal was cooked perfectly with mozzarella cheese and red sauce on top. Everything was very rich in flavor. Also to top it off we had a slice of homemade cheesecake with homemade whipped cream. The wife and I were both stuffed and only ate maybe half of each of our dishes, but we finish the cheesecake. It was so good. Side note: This place has big portions and the price I think is cheaper than others that don’t even compare. We will be back and this is our favorite Italian restaurant now.

This was our first visit and we’ve already discussed coming back! I had lobster ravioli topped with shrimp and lump crab and my husband had the snapper in mushroom sauce topped with lump crab and shrimp. The portion was perfect and we were full when we left. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our server Mia knew the menu well and was good at suggesting meals. It’s very authentic and quaint.

The food was very good and definitely worth coming back for. The service was solid, about a “B”. The escargot was excellent, and the lasagna was an easy “A”. The lobster ravioli was very good, though a bit salty for my taste. The chocolate mousse was excellent and a perfect way to end the meal.

I can’t believe I’ve never been here.
Hands down the best Italian food I’ve ever had. The old school vibe warmed my heart upon entering the doors and the food was amazing, truly amazing. I kept thanking my husband for bringing me here through out our dinner and how much I loved it!

This place is absolutely legendary and the legends are all true.
Fantastic, fresh, delicious, kind, fairly priced, huge servings, what’s better than this? Nothing.
It’s no wonder this place has the lore it does.

Olive what??? If you want authentic Italian food and vibe you should try Frenchies. I’m so glad Alessandro unlocked the door for us because the restaurant experience was one we’ll always remember (in the best way)! From the amazing gnocchi appetizers to the lamb chop special to the cheesecake dessert I mean I can go on and on but what made all the difference and set this restaurant apart was Alessandro. He was great and schooled us on everything Italiano. Thank you for the experience and we will be back soon.
Oh the only reason I knocked off 1 minuscule star which really should be 1/2 star on Atmosphere is because there’s only 1 bathroom stall for the women and it took a few trips before I finally got to use it but that’s minor.

TLDR; amazing Italian food, authentic atmosphere, experienced staff, wonderful menu with gluten free options!
Came in on a Friday night for dinner and the place was packed! The experienced staff had us seated quickly with drinks. Very authentic feel to this place, I loved the classical feel in the atmosphere. From the host’s book in the front area, to the photographs in the lobby, even frenchie himself taking an active part in curating the experience, everything set the stage for a delicious and hardy meal! I don’t think anyone walks out of this door hungry, they had many gluten free options available.

I haven’t been to Frenchies Italian in about 20 years after moving to the other side of the Houston area. I’m thankful to say…nothing has changed! It remains the same in all the best ways.
When is the last time you went to an Italian restaurant (in Houston area) and the people working there were speaking Italian? The authenticity shows all the way through.
My go-to order from the lunch menu, and reason I was excited to come back, is the ham and cheese crepes…one of my all time favorites and so much richer than you might think!
Do yourself a favor and give Frenchies a visit next time you are in the Clear Lake area. It’s one of those rare institutions that we need to support to keep around and authentic for another 50 years!

Food was delicious. Pasta tasted real. Bread and garlicky olive oil dip were amazing. The spaghetti with meat sauce was a hit as well as the alfredo. Chicken marsala was great too. The entire place could probably use a face lift but it’s nostalgic in its own way and people love it. It’s completely covered wall to wall with pictures of pilots and astronauts which I personally thought was unique and awesome at the same time. Ive read complaints of the place not being very clean but I did not notice that at all during my visit. The owner is an older Italian gentleman who is very nice, speaking italian while walking up and down the dining area checking on diners. The staff was not bad at all maybe slow but I blame that on the sudden rush of 30 or more people that showed up almost at the same time. I will admit I think the sign in station is out dated and inefficient. But that doesn’t affect the great taste of the food. The meals were very comparative in price to just about any other Italian restaurant except the food at Frenchies is actually worth it.
