I have a legume allergy and I never, ever order beans. My burrito arrived with beans and onions, which makes it unsafe for me to eat. That alone is bad. What came next was worse.
When we called the store, the manager immediately got defensive, treated the situation like a personal attack, and acted as if I was trying to scam him instead of raising a legitimate health concern. He kept repeating that his system showed no bean removal on Uber Eats, refused to listen, and made it clear he had already decided I was wrong.
No apology. No attempt to help. No professionalism.
It felt like he had personal beef with the complaint and took it way too personally, instead of handling it like a manager. To top it off, he hung up the phone without warning or courtesy—just ended the call.
Food mistakes happen. Attitude problems don’t have to. When allergies are involved, dismissiveness and ego are unacceptable.
If you value customer service—or your health—be very cautious ordering from Pepe’s Mexican Food
(After posting this I see there are others that received cold food recently, and with a response from the owner its still the same. So clearly action taken by the owner is not effective either.)
The yellow chili with seasoning was amazing…the sauce bar with fresh radishes was welcoming. Overall the food was very good, already scheduled a date this month to drive back from San Diego for another round of Tacos.
When everything’s okay I don’t need to say anything.
I had a problem with this restaurant for a while, so I don’t go that often. Only when I decide to give them another chance.
They have a drive-thru.
Many days I don’t feel like walking after work, so I go through the drive-thru. Today I felt like getting a nachos so I got in line and the lady took my order I paid with a card she told me that I was getting nachos I gave her a tip or I put the tip in the jar. I received my food weighed like 3 lb.
I opened the styrofoam container and I saw cheese that was not melted, which was okay still doable then I reached in to get my first delicious tortilla chip, and found out that I had a box of french fries with stuff on top of it. I’m a super white American that doesn’t know hardly any Spanish and I don’t go to a Mexican restaurant to eat french fries.
If I want french fries I go to Mc french fries.
So I was going to enjoy my food in their parking lot.
When I realized it was french fries, I took my styrofoam box back inside to let them know it was the wrong order. The young gentleman that was walking around the lobby decided to tell me that I didn’t know what I was ordered. I said I ordered a nacho platter. Because I’m old and words don’t come easy to me so platter was the first thing that came out of my mouth although it wasn’t actually called a platter. The young gentleman corrected me and said that they don’t have nacho platter so I couldn’t have possibly ordered nachos. When I realized he was going to argue with me about the food I walked out and went home and will never go back to Pepe’s again. Even though they have a drive-thru.
I ordered 1 papas (potato) taco, 1 shredded beef taco, and 2 chilis. They have a nice salsa bar that includes sliced radishes, limes and pickled onions.
The potato taco was everything! I’m a beef eater and found the potato taco VERY satisfying! Delicate, light, fluffy, whipped potatoes in that crisp fried shell, ice cold finely shredded lettuce and cheese…hit it with the spicy salsa and have a bite of the seasoned chilis with every bite of your taco…heaven!
The shredded beef taco was equally great! Nice portion of beef in the taco. The chilis are salted and covered in some seasoning, chamoy maybe? I don’t know what it was, but I do know they were the best I’ve had. So good!
I’m adding Pepe’s to my list of must hits whenever I’m in town. I’m so mad we don’t have one in San Diego! Until next time, Pepe’s!!
