Cozy, romantic New American restaurant & bar in a renovated 1912 bungalow with deck seating.

I don’t usually like grapefruit and ranch salad (former being too acidic and the latter being too rich) but this place convinced me to reconsider. The Great Gatsby drink is balanced just right to be not too acidic but also be a fantastic pairing for your red meat entrée. The Alley House Salad was another big surprise; I did not expect candied bacon to help cut down the richness and add more depth to the flavor profile. Elk tenderloin was nice, but I would rather go for the salmon or other entrée instead unless this is your first time trying game food. They ran out of brown sugar old fashioned and instead offered chocolate old fashioned, and I wish I asked for the recipe because that was a fantastic drink; subtle sweetness that pairs and enhances the robustness and bitterness of the whiskey. This will be my go-to place when I visit Pagosa Springs again. All the compliments to the bar staff, they made my experience phenomenal. I would’ve ordered more drinks but I fear I would’ve passed out (I have low alcohol tolerance recently). I apologize for not asking for their names.

Fine dining in Pagosa Springs. It has two sides with different atmospheres, to the left is a classically nice dining setting, and to the right a brighter more modern vibe. The fried calamari was the best I’ve ever had, the waiters recommended wine for my wife was perfect, and both of our meals were very elegantly plated and delicious. Road construction makes getting around town square a little challenging, but if you’re there and looking for a classy meal, this place will not disappoint.

If you’re coming for the bar, maybe your experience will be worth it. We learned that price does not necessarily dictate quality. We got take-out and paid $35 EACH for this mess (see photos). We asked for brussels and broccolini to sub for ratatouille. One container had the broccolini, the other container had no side whatsoever. The container weighed more than the food inside. When I called to let them know they forgot one side, I got a recording that hung up on me after letting me know how I could make reservations. The host/hostess staff had no knowledge of the menu and had to go find out from others questions that were asked of them. This is easily one of the worst experiences we have ever had at a so-called nice restaurant. Oh and for the menu writer, I don’t think portobellos qualify as “seasonal” mushrooms. We definitely do not recommend.

We ate at AHG a couple of times last week while on vacation. We had the filet one night and the bone in ribeye the other night. Both steaks were excellent and the sides (fries, broccoli, red pepper polenta, & whipped potatoes) were great as well. I highly recommend the sauce flight to try a few different sauces as they are all very good. If you like butterscotch, give their signature Brown Butter Old Fashioned a try. If not, stick with a regular OF. Either way, you won’t be disappointed. When you make your reservation, be sure to choose the grill side if you want a more quiet/intimate setting. If you want to mingle with the people, choose the lounge side. We’ll definitely be back on our next trip!

I have been going to The Alley House since the original owners (Todd and Kelly). It used to be superb. Since the New owners I have experienced declining food quality and presentation. Last night has confirmed I need to spend my dollars elsewhere. The woman bartender was rude, she usually is. We moved to a table when our group arrived. I typically order the Thai Caesar salad with salmon on it. The last 3 times I have been in there just since the new year the salad has been drenched in way too much dressing (which I pointed out to the server). The romaine lettuce was brown on the edges. The salmon quality is terrible. I can buy better filets at City Market. The server did his best. The wine menu only gives 1 choice of wine by the glass. They used to have a selection of different priced wine by the glass. Now you have no choices. Bad food quality for the price. A 36.00 salad should be good not half eaten because it was do bad.

Wonderful place, all servers, host, bussers were amazing. Very pricey ordered the $88 ribeye, overcooked. Server took care of it. But for an $88 steak, assume they know how to cook it.

I recently took a two day, two night trip to Pagosa Springs, and my only regret is not going to the Alley House Grille for both nights. This is a do not miss type of spot. I ordered the Chilean sea bass and it was cooked perfect. They were able to sub the risotto for whipped potatoes on my entree as well. My partner got a steak with a salad to start and loaded mashed potatoes with the entree. Best steak we’ve had all year!
For dessert they have an in house pastry chef. We got the bread pudding (easily top 5 desserts I’ve EVER had) and the blueberry cobbler (also amazing.)
Do not miss this spot! They easily have some of the best cuisine in the state.

One of the best resteraunts in Colorado and it’s crazy that it’s tucked away in Pagosa! Service was awesome, kitchen was shockingly fast, and the food was incredible. Get the lamb shank if it’s still on the menu and don’t forget about the triple chocolate cheesecake. Can’t wait to go back!

My husband and I were looking for something nice while we visited Pagosa, and read good reviews about this place so we gave it a try. I wanted to really love it because it was a cute spot and seemed to be great. However, our experience wasn’t that great. Our server took forever to come even ask about drinks because they were too caught up talking to another employee. After we finally ordered our food, my steak came out so burnt on the bottom and around the edges that it was almost inedible because of the taste of just bitterness all around. I ended up having to scrape what I could off and cut into the meat and slice off the outer parts. Unfortunately, for the price of our meals it wasn’t worth it. During our time there several others seemed to be having issues with their plates as well because at least two tables across from us sent their dish back twice. I’m not sure if it was just an off night but it was really disappointing, especially because by the time we left it was so late that there wasn’t really anywhere else to go grab food as we left hungry and dissatisfied.

Expensive for what you get on the fine dining side. Servers may have been understaffed.
Fried cauliflower appetizer was the best value. Caesar salad was average, although anchovies were nice extra. Had to request fresh cracked pepper from server. Shrimp scampi was heavy with lemon although tasty.
Sea bass, salmon and shrimp dinners were good. Not great. Presentation was nice for everything except the Brussels sprouts side dish.
