Our hibachi chef, Jesus, was not only talented but super funny he kept us entertained the whole time and made the experience even better. Elliott, our server, was great as very attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish.
Overall, an awesome dining experience. We’ll definitely be coming back!
We ordered the Hibachi Dinner for Two “A,” which is priced at $70, and simply asked to substitute shrimp for chicken—something that has never been an issue for us before. Instead of accommodating the request, Kyle repeatedly pushed us toward option “D,” a $95 choice that he admitted is not even listed on the menu. It felt like an unnecessary and aggressive upsell.
During the discussion, I explained that the substitution was important due to a shrimp allergy. His response was, “There’s nothing I can do about that,” which was shocking and disappointing to hear. There was no empathy or effort to understand our concerns—just a focus on insisting we choose the more expensive, off-menu option.
To make matters worse, this entire exchange happened in front of our children and another family seated nearby, making the situation uncomfortable and upsetting. What should have been a special evening turned into a frustrating and embarrassing experience.
From the start we noticed their prices had gone up significantly, 15-20%+. We ordered our appetizer (assorted tempura) as usual and we were disappointed to see the plate look surprisingly empty mainly had lettuce. They use to put 2 of each veggie and now they only put one of each and the shrimp tempura was soggy instead of crisp. Then we saw the chicken, it wasn’t even tempura it was baked of some sort. I was starving and knew it would be a while until we ate so I ate it. Our soup came out, the house soup. They have officially just cut back apparently, one tiny floating mushroom and no onions or chives in it as it usually does. I then tried it and it tasted like dirty water with a hint of onion flavor. We pushed it aside and kept trying to enjoy the night out. My husband still loved their salad I must say.
As we looked at the menu we noticed they started charging $2 for yum yum sauce…that’s part of the normal hibachi experience and their prices had already increased. The chef comes and does a great job on the show, rice, and veggies, as we get to the meat we noticed he didn’t put any of the liquid seasoning as they usually do (teriyaki I think). He put an excessive amount of salt, pepper, and butter only on the steak and butter, lemon, salt, and pepper on the shrimp. We paused him as he lifted it to put on our plate and asked where the rest of the seasoning was. Mind you we get this same order EVERY time we have gone in the last 5 years and never had this done. The chef informed us that it cost extra now, $2 per meal for the seasoning we have gotten at a lower price for the last 5 years. We said no thank you and decided to try it this way. We ended up boxing it up and taking it home to bring down the salty taste and enhance the flavors with stuff we had at home.
As it came time to tip, we told him we were sorry we didn’t have cash and that we would leave a separate tip on the receipt for the chef. We typically do this and the waiters encourage it. He then was so kind and said don’t worry about it, THE CHEFS DON’T GET THE TIPS IF LEFT ON A CARD/RECEIPT. We asked if that was new and he said NO it’s been like that. My husband and I were mad, this whole time we left extra tips for our chef and never do they receive them. The chef explained that they say “it’s just too hard to split up tips”. We had maybe $18 cash on us together so we gave him that, but felt terrible because we wanted to give $30-40, he did a great job. Side note, we noticed that they go through chefs fast and now we understand why. As we paid the waited was hovering over us and my husband didn’t really want to leave a great tip for the waited that came by maybe 3 times total (bring us drinks, bring us soup and salad, and one refill). He decided to leave the 18% of the meal which was more than we gave the chef unfortunately because we didn’t have cash. We usually are large tippers minimally 25-30% but the entire thing upset us especially that we had been getting ripped off this entire time with the chef never receiving his tips specified on the receipt as they told us to do!
As we left we talked about it and with the new prices, long wait times with reservations, small portions, and lies, we will not be going back sadly. I really did love this place and hate to leave it.
