Go to the Dunedin location!!!
Made it very clear to the server I have severe food allergies, cheese cannot be included with my food. Had her bring the manager so that I could emphasize the situation to him, and I did.
Manager brought three tacos out, cheese on top. I looked at them, laughed, and said that looks like cheese. He looked down, realized, and took them back. Said he’d make new ones.
New ones came, and I dug right in. They were good! When I was on my third taco, right next to it on the plate was an orange peice of cheese about the size of my fingernail. Heavy dissappointment and, frankly, fear, hit me immediately. What if there was cheese in the tacos I ate?
Took a while for anyone to come out, so I carefully dissected the taco. No cheese, I ate it.
My server came out, I said everything tasted great, but I pointed out the cheese. She apologized, and I reiterated with her to let the kitchen know that it’s an ALLERGY situation, and to be extra careful. She agreed, apologized again, and headed to the kitchen with my plate and the cheese.
Then, the manager came out. He says “now, do you want more tacos or? Because I don’t want you to complain again.” I was baffled. I give him a confused look, and he goes “where is the cheese?” as he puts the plate back on the table. The cheese was still there, now split into two pieces… I point to them. He says “and this is a problem?? It was not IN the taco.”
I say “It was WITH the tacos, that’s still a problem.”
He says “Okay, I will get you tacos without cheese.”
He comes back a bit later with two tacos (it was all you can eat,) and says “check them BEFORE you eat them ok” and walks away. Before he was even out of sight, there was another peice of cheese, this time physically on the taco.
I shout to him, but he either ignores or doesn’t hear me. I signal for the host to get him, and he does.
I point out the cheese. “Okay, you know what, you don’t need to pay for them. Just leave, because this is too much.”
No apology from the manager. Not even when he brought out 3 orders, all with errors. In the end, the issue was that I COMPLAINED about there being cheese, not the fact that he could have killed me.
I hurt his ego.
He has no business being in any kind of service industry whatsoever.
05/05/25 Tried Carmelita’s on Cinco de Mayo. Probably not the best day to try a new Mexican restaurant, but they did great under the pressure of extra patrons. Cute little Mexican restaurant. Note, they have a little bar in the back and you can get a drink while you wait. It took me a minute to figure that out. They have a few tables and chairs right outside the door to sit at while you wait too. Great chips (light and crisp) and salsa. They have white and yellow queso. Top shelf margarita was very good… Not just sweet and sour mix. The nachos with fajita steak were just what I wanted. It’s hard to find a good Mexican restaurant with Cheddar and white cheese…I was pleasantly surprised they had both. Service was quick and so was our food. They kept our table clean and chips, salsa, and drinks full. Exactly what you would expect from a local family owned Mexican restaurant. Portions were generous and prices were very reasonable. Restaurant was clean and there is plenty of free parking in a lot. Overall, I loved it and will go back!
