My only star lose; music was terrible, but that is my personal opinion.
Service was pretty slow and mediocre at best (but the machine starts at 20% lol).
Anyways, food was alright. We had the octopus, surf and turf mac and cheese, and the lobster ravioli. Having two pasta dishes ended up being too heavy of a meal. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was so good that I’d get it again. Might try the Windermere location next time and some other food but otherwise won’t be back.
In addition, they also serve a nice array of non oyster dishes. I recommend the Moroccan Octopus, which comes with a lovely and velvety sauce that plays nicely with the grilled octopus.
The mushrooms Neptune were just okay, the sauce overpowered any king crab flavor.
Black Pearl features a lot of cocktails, and some of them are gimmicky.
The room is nice, and well located. You can tell that they do try to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for their guests.
Reservations are highly recommended.
4*
For starters, the service was absolutely amazing. Our server Cheyenne had us cracking up all night! Her and the bartender were outstanding! We were late for our reservation, but they didn’t make us feel rushed at all, we laughed, sang and joked until the very end it felt like being out to dinner with friends!
When we came in our plan was a few appetizers and a main dish each so we could try a little bit of everything, when we asked our server to recommend a dish she ended up selling us on the kings platter. She was absolutely right that if you want to try a little bit of everything it was the right platter for us. The seafood was incredible, and each bowl had a different sauce. We were absolutely stuffed, and still had enough to take home so even with the price we had absolutely no regrets at the end of the night! Overall amazing experience and can’t wait to come back!
They also upcharge for horse radish which I have never experienced before.
We had a couple appetizers which were not bad and then finished with the creme brulé. It was amazing. Kind of saved the once a year expensive night out.
Will not be back unfortunately. Will save oysters for Rodneys in Calgary.
I ordered a Seafood Risotto ($35.95), a Virgin Mango Mule ($7.5) and Pistachio Chocolate Hazelnut Cheesecake ($15.85).
My risotto was amazing and consisted of red snapper, tiger prawns, calamari, mussels and red pepper on a bed of risotto with a yellow curry cream sauce. I found it to be very flavourful, and honestly reminded me of ramen broth flavour wise. My mule was delicious as well. However my cheesecake while good didn’t hit the mark. It was house made and you can’t go wrong with house made, but I couldn’t taste the pistachio nor the hazelnut. Otherwise, it was a good cheesecake.
The staff and patrons were all extremely friendly. I struck up conversations with many of them and everyone gave me some very good brunch or dinner recommendations.
Can’t thank them enough for an amazing solo meal and good conversation. I highly recommend this establishment. They have amazing seafood options and LOTS of oysters.
The atmosphere and attention to detail in the design and decide of the restaurant is one of the best in all of Edmonton. It’s a nice dark ambience.
Great place for a nice date night and great spot for seafood lovers.
