Au Crocodile – Strasbourg – a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant
Reviews
What truly elevated the experience, though, was the service. From the moment we arrived, the whole team took exceptional care of us, making us feel both welcomed and special. A heartfelt thank you in particular to Loan and the entire service team for their attentiveness, warmth, and professionalism.
An excellent balance of fine dining, creativity, and hospitality. We can only highly recommend Au Crocodile to anyone visiting Strasbourg.
Overall in France Michelin Star is not reliable and highly biased. Some of the dishes were great and some were quite awful. Also the service is good but some of the dishes were served in chipped utensils. :/
Coming to food, the chef lacks balance or I have a poor palate. The key lime with the fish sent a shock to my bones. The olive oil on the ice cream was unnecessary. I have not seen someone ruining a great caviar with strange wrap around like this place before.
The lobster and the pastry with the poultry dish were memorable . The small bites were good too.
Everything from start to finish was worthy of its fine dining Michelin rating.
We opted for the tasting menu that included all dishes on the a la carte menu.
Every dish tasted wonderful with portions being perfect. Flawless service enhanced the evening. Don’t miss this one!
From the beginning you enter, you receive very warmest and the most politeness of the welcomes from the staffs. We were seated and the upper floor. You feel that it’s luxurious but still cozy and won’t make you feel uncomfortable.
They started serving you the warm towel and then serve us an appetizer which good but some of them are quite strong taste. After that, we ordered the chef menu which include 6 dish in total but at the end you will receive more. We were quite worried that we might not be full but due to they were taking time serving each small dish then we felt really full after leaving the restaurant.
Each time they serve the dish, they will explain what are they and what products are they from. We really like the idea of using the local products to made each dish. We enjoy every moment we were there from food to services. Really worth for your experiences.
To top off our fabulous evening we even got to peak into an original Michelin guide book from 1968.
Michelin 1 Star approaching the experience of a 2 star.
The food is forgettable. It’s well crafted, but not expressive. High quality products, but nothing you want to revisit. You might even just want McDonald’s afterward. And no chocolates or gift to finish. (even if it’s just the printed menu, candy or something used in the food to remember them by).
Wine list is decent, but prices are near 3-4x retail for bottles, and the by the glass menu is very poor (only 1 crand cru).
They are pushy to buy wine – to the point it’s obvious they need to because they don’t naturally sell enough.
Their confirmation of this tells me they would benefit from restructuring their wine menu. There are many affordable and excellent Alsacian wines that would _greatly_ enhance the diner’s experience AND net more profit.
I.e. marvel deiss Pinot noir is around €50. I would pay €125 and probably order a second bottle. Pierre Frick costs half that, but could charge the same. Albert Seltz, Boeckel, Karcher grand crus are very affordable and excellent quality. By improving quality and not ripping people off of the markup, diners will buy more. You’ll actually make more money! (And have happier diners). I, for example, refused to pay over 3x retail for wine and chose water instead.
The dining room is lovely, but the servers’ shirts are ‘nude’ and the same color as the carpet, so everything blends in and it’s very Eyes Wide Shut.
