The staff are wonderful, very attentive and give great recommendations. The food was delicious. Had the honey squid, thai basil rice, Nasi Lemak and wonton soup. So delicious. Definitely will come back again.

Made it a point to stop here on our trip because it is still the best Malaysian there is. The roti canai served with a small bowl of chicken curry is a classic appetizer and char away teow noodle dish with seafood is homey. The Meegoreng is also great.

Craving some Hainanese chicken with rice and an oyster omelette, I turned to my trusty Google Maps and found Penang Malaysian & Thai Cuisine.

Parking was a breeze, thanks to their dedicated lot. We were warmly greeted by the host and seated at a comfortable booth. The waiter was quick to bring us hot tea, and since we knew exactly what we wanted, we placed our order right away.

Our food arrived promptly. While I was excited for both dishes, the oyster omelette was the undeniable star. It came with a variety of accompanying sauces, and the omelette itself was phenomenal. Every bite was packed with juicy oysters, and the fluffy egg batter was simply delicious. Paired with the spicy chili sauce, it created a flavor explosion that danced on my taste buds.

Unfortunately, the Hainanese chicken with rice was just okay. I was disappointed to find that they used soy sauce instead of the traditional ginger scallion sauce. The rice, cooked in poached chicken stock, was bland and lacked depth. The absence of garlic or ginger in the stock was noticeable, and it left the dish feeling a bit lackluster. The flavor of the chicken stock is what makes this dish so special, but sadly, this version was missing that key element.

The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely. The booths were spacious enough to seat four to six people comfortably, and there were also tables available. Beautiful flowers lined the borders, and the interior had a warm and calming feel.

We went to Penang after many years. We walked in at 9pm and we were immediately told a couple of times that the kitchen closes at 930. Behind us were two other families as well
We felt rushed as we were told so many times that kitchen was closing soon although the restaurant closes at 10pm.
The chicken satay was the only thing that was good enough to eat. The Tom yum soup was very sour and was served cold. Chicken green curry was flavorless and when I asked for some chillies, I was told they have nothing. Then a server got me some chilli sauce as I insisted for something to add some flavor.
We also ordered lamb rendang which was definitely overpriced for the size and flavor of the dish.
I understand that we walked in a later than they were used to but the restaurant was still opened. In this day and age when Mom and pop restaurants are competing with the big wig names they really need to step up their game with service and especially the taste of the food.
We were very fond of Penang a couple of years ago and It’s very unfortunate that this experience was highly disappointing.

One of the places I have in mind to take the family for food – Penang Malaysian and Thai Cuisine in Edison, New Jersey. Definitely brings us back to great feels and nostalgia of our life in Asia. The food and taste that takes us back to travels, adventures, friends and family. The food at this restaurant is delicious. Made me miss friends and family more, but felt closer to home. My love language is quality time and taking people I love, to try different types of food. My love language is expressed through taking you out to eat and splurging on food. Whenever I take my siblings out to eat, I make them try all that I have tried in my travels. I do the same thing to my husband and kids – the Taste of Asia always links to heritage and our other home.

We ordered all the food that we have been craving for;

*Nasi Lemak
*Penang Satay with Peanut Butter dip
*Roti Canai
*Penang Char Kway Teow
*Bah Kut Teh Soup
*Spring Rolls
*Fried Rice

Of course, never complete without our favorite desserts :

*Thai Mango
*Thai Iced Tea with Pearls
*Sticky Rice
*Mochi
*Fried Ice Cream
*Halo-Halo Shaved Ice (Malaysian Version)

The place is well lit, very open and spacious. It was not crowded and we didn’t have to wait to be seated. Best for family dinners. The food was quickly served. Food price is reasonable, quite the average rate for Thai/Malaysian restaurants in the area, approximately 150USD for the 4 of us which is around 8,000 in Philippine peso.

The staff were very nice, super friendly too and our waiter was speaking to us in Filipino. Awesome experience over all! Would love to take friends there again sometime. Looking forward!

Had lunch with my family (group of 3) last weekend.
Most of the food was good, the only thing we will not order Hakka Crispy Pork ever again (not my cup of tea) and the boba chewiness was not that good either.
But other than that everything was great.

After a long road trip, we rolled into Penang Restaurant right before closing—and I’m genuinely grateful they let us in. They didn’t have to, but they were warm, patient, and welcoming in a way that immediately sets the tone for a great meal.

The Malaysian pork chop was outstanding—crispy, savory, and perfectly paired with fragrant coconut rice that tied everything together beautifully. Absolute comfort food done right.

Do yourself a favor and get the roti canai, and ask for it a bit soft. It comes out pillow-like, warm, and indulgent, and when dipped into their curry sauce it’s pure happiness in every bite.

This place is a true Edison, NJ staple for a reason—consistently delicious food, real hospitality, and flavors that keep you coming back.

I visited Penang today, a Malay–Thai restaurant. I ordered roti canai, nasi lemak, and chicken curry over rice — all of which were authentic and delicious. Our server, Mr. Budi, was exceptionally nice, well-behaved, and mannered. He was very helpful, kind, polite, and treated customers with the utmost respect. He truly deserves recognition — and even a raise.

Been here so many times! One of my family’s favorite places to go to. We mainly go for the Roti Canai & Chicken Satay and usually order seconds and even thirds. It’s just so good! They have so many different options to choose from and I’m sure they’re all great but our go-to is def those two dishes. Also love their fresh coconut water and fried ice cream!
