I was surprised by how cheap their lunch options were- I had the Burrito Grande and it was $7.99 for everything you see in the picture! I had enough for a second meal, though I didn’t think I would at first, but that’s also probably because I filled up on chips and salsa. The salsa is more blended compared to other places I’ve been, and I don’t particularly enjoy chunky salsa so that’s a win.
I typically choose dishes at Mexican restaurants with shredded beef options, which La Isla does not have (at least on their lunch menu), although they have chopped beef, which is not as good in my opinion. For the burrito grande, I chose ground beef and it was pretty good.
While the food was good, I don’t think it was as high quality as the other restaurant’s, and the flavor profile was simpler and not as stand-out “Mexican”. It was a good meal, but not one that stood out and encourages me to come back.
My diet skews heavily vegetarian and one of my kids is a vegetarian. La Isla is literally the least stressful place for us to eat, and the staff are super friendly.
La Isla is genuine through and through: authentic food in an authentic atmosphere (but still not too loud for a nice conversation). The service is great, and the portions are huge despite being amazingly cheap. Even the cheaper items on the menu are amazing; I can afford to come a lot more often than I would at most restaurants of this quality. Everything here is good – take your pick of what calls your name from the menu.
My favorite is the Enchiladas Supremas, which is humble fare (and cheap) but absolutely delicious (and a huge portion) – feels like good home cooking. The carne asada meal (a thin, juicy steak you can cut up and put in tortillas) is incredible when I feel like splurging (it’s still cheaper than basic fare at most places).
The food is not spicy unless you add hot sauce to it (which is authentic) – that’s what the bottles on the table are for. Use them to taste, or don’t (the food is amazing as-is). The delicious homemade salsa with the free chips is very mild, and probably perfect for most PA taste buds. I like adding some of the (very hot) red habañero sauce to it, but that’s just me. You can bring a whole family here even if they don’t like spicy food.
Our servers were amazing. This place is so busy that it was difficult to find seating on a Friday evening, and yet the servers were keeping up. Would go back again.
The food is so good and fresh. I love the salsa! It is fantastic! The vegetarian fajita skillet is wonderful with a ton of different veggies. This is a great place for lunch or dinner at an affordable price. Service is fast and friendly here.
