So, what about the food? It was good! I ordered a basket that included grilled scallops, fries, slaw, and a couple hushpuppies. My wife ordered a Quinoa Salad consisting of quinoa, cabbage, pineapple salsa, tomatoes, carrots, corn, cucumbers, balsamic vinaigrette, and lettuce blend. She shared a bite with me and if you’re a fan of quinoa, you’ll probably enjoy this salad. The veggies and quinoa provided an interesting texture while the balsamic vinaigrette added a punch of flavor to the salad.
My caution is to go to Marley’s with proper expectations. This is a casual, outdoor, counter-service place. Don’t expect linen tablecloths and a roving violinist as you dine. And the food is good, but don’t expect a $60 meal for a $17 price. But if you’re looking for a fun place to ride your bike for a seafood or burger lunch, Marley’s Shrimp & Burger Shack should be on your short list.
Monday’s include a $6.00 burger special, which is a good value for the area. I wasn’t as concerned about the prices for this visit, but most adult meals will cost $10 or more. Kids meals run about $8.00 per individual.
The restaurant does not have indoor dinning; however, this is probably not a problem for year round dinning in South Carolina. There was plenty of outdoor seating though. Window service for ordering was pretty reasonable. We ordered and received our meals in less than 10 minutes.
I’m not sure if they have a new crew, changed their cooking methods, were having a shifts change, or their standard has dropped but this was one of the times when the food was highly disappointing.
We ordered food 14 July 2022 at 12:15. We ordered 2 of the pick 2 baskets(one with fries shrimp & chicken tenders and one with blackened scallops & chicken tenders), a side of hush browns and a side of the fried pickles.
The blackened scallops, fried shrimp, and fried chicken tenders were great. But the French fries, fried pickles, and hush puppies were a huge failure. The tray was filled with fries but they were burnt, black, and soaked in grease. Hush puppies were over cooked and tasted if they had been reheated. The pickles were very, very soggy. Pretty bad when half of the food made the rest of the food look bad.
This time for what we paid and what we got, it was a huge disappointment.
To pay around $60 for a total of 6 tenders(3 each), 4 shrimp, and around 10 scallops, don’t think we will be back for a while.
Atmosphere was nice for us as we were out biking. But it is picnic table, counter service. If the weather wasn’t absolutely perfect today, this wouldn’t have been our lunch stop.
We have been here before for burgers and they were also very tasty.
Overall, good tasting food but overpriced. But it is HHI so there’s that!
On my first visit I tried the jumbo chicken tenders, which are large flat pieces of chicken…it felt fresh and was pretty good.
On my second visit I tried the burger. Hand formed patty and hand cut fries both were hot and fresh. The potato bun was soft.
Most people were ordering shrimp/other fried foods and really enjoying.
Plenty of parking and right off the bike trail. Order at the window (outside), then they call your name to pickup at the window.
A must to try. You’ll definitely be back.
The service was amazing also.
Marley’s is still very good in 2024.
The food was excellent and not greasy. The tacos were very good and my seafood basket was on point, wife and I will be back for sure. Menu choices are plentiful. Stop by you’ll love it.
The fried pickles are good and served with the standard ranch dipping sauce. Fries were a little over cooked and pretty greasy.
Overall, my meal with drink was $21 which for a walk up burger shack served up a bit less then expected.
Lastly, the implied “add a tip” at what seems to be every transaction now a days is Too Much. If I’m seating myself, picking up my food at a window and cleaning the table, the first option of 20% tip seems a bit unwarranted… make it something reasonable and I’d be happy to drop a quick dollar for the food crew.
With all the many spots to eat, this will likely not be on the return list.
