We ordered the chicken strips and fries which was supposed to come with coleslaw. I ordered the turkey dinner after asking if it is from a turkey. I.e. not processed the waitress advised me that they have a turkey in the kitchen and that’s where the meat comes from. So I took a chance and ordered it about 20 minutes or so later the food arrived at our table the chicken strips were okay the batter looked overcooked, the chicken inside the batter was ok.
The turkey dinner on the other hand was not good at all. The turkey meat was not slice from the turkey in the kitchen as I had been advised. Instead it was three slices of processed meat. The vegetables looked good, unfortunately they were cold! The stuffing and the 2 ice cream scoop sized mashed potatoes were lukewarm! I told the waitress I didn’t want it, she took it away.
When asked for the coleslaw for the chicken strips the waitress advised oh we don’t have any. This was replaced with a salad, play welcomed trade! The salad had Caesar dressing, for future customers less could be considered more as this salad have been drenched in this salad dressing.
Sadly, on a day that everything else was closed, this was our only alternative. Sharing that one plate of food, left us both hungry, we returned to our hotel!
Update, several hours later, we believe the food has given us ‘sick’ nauseating feeling in our stomachs
There were a couple of small positives: the steamed broccoli was good and tasted properly buttered. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The coleslaw was rancid. I was offered a replacement, but after tasting spoiled food, I didn’t want to risk it and asked for mashed potatoes instead – which were extremely bland. The lemon grilled chicken had no lemon flavour at all (just a wedge on top) and the portion was shockingly small – smaller than a burger patty at Boomers – especially insulting for a $17 plate. The bread roll was missing entirely and had to be asked for.
They were also out of a surprising number of items for this early in the week: mac and cheese, ice cream, and most pies (including marionberry). The pie case was nearly empty, as was the restaurant. I did try the cherry pie, but the crust was very dry and difficult to chew.
Service was inconsistent. The male server was courteous and professional, but the female server was flippant and unprofessional – openly saying she “does nothing but chat up her friends when it’s this slow”. Meanwhile, the restaurant itself felt neglected: a sink was broken and leaking, loud heavy-metal music was blasting from the kitchen, and the bathroom was not clean at all.
What bothered me most was the Wi-Fi situation. I called ahead to confirm free Wi-Fi because I needed to work. When I arrived, the Wi-Fi prompted me to pay by the hour, and the only “free” network didn’t work at all. To make matters worse, I tried checking the menu on their website beforehand and the menu wouldn’t load at all, which tracks with how disorganized everything felt.
I regularly go to Denny’s and spend under $11 for reliable free Wi-Fi, a hearty meal, dessert, and consistent service. Here, I spent $30 (before tip) for a tiny portion, poor service, poor maintenance, poor inventory management, and paid Wi-Fi.
I genuinely wanted to support Shari’s, but this location is terribly run from top to bottom. Even at one-third of the price, the quality and quantity wouldn’t be worth it. Sadly, there isn’t a single reason to come back.
If you’re prioritizing spotless cleanliness, a fancy brunch atmosphere, or very prompt service, this probably isn’t the place for you. It’s a very standard American breakfast spot. That said, it’s hard not to stop by because the pie and biscuits and gravy are just that good.
Large variety of selection from sweet to savory on many items and by the end of the meal it was a lovely choice to save some space for a piece of pie.
The waitress seemed nice at first, but then passive aggressively fat shamed us by laughing at what we ordered. Burger was dry, fries were limp, salad was lacking in toppings. The side of Mac and cheese we ordered didn’t even come out. I ordered a slice of pie to go and she didn’t even give us a full slice. Paid way too much for subpar food and crappy service. Do your self a favor and go somewhere else!
I ordered one of the special, honey style pork chop with eggs & hash browns, a breakfast sampler plate, sirloin steak & eggs. Hash browns were cooked well with crisp top. Eggs & steak are done right according to your preference. Pancakes were fluffy & they have sugar free syrup if you asked. Their French toast were very good, they used Texas style bread, very well done. All in all a very enjoyable meal with friendly staff.
