Every bite is packed with flavor, texture, and intention. The food was incredible here and I loved my hot bowl. The portions are generous but absolutely tasty. Better yet, the staff and chef are so kind – you feel at home. Their desserts are also absolutely delicious. The sweet potato cheesecake was soft but had a nice crunch and flavor profile from the cake and pecans. This place is no joke- you have to check it out.

I went here for the first time on MLK Day 1/20/26. Upon entry we were greeted by the owner who was warm and friendly. He asked if we had any food allergies and I told him I was vegan. While my wife and I were ordering our food he brings me a small vegan sampler and I was blown back. My wife placed our orders and sat. Moments later our food arrived and it did not disappoint. I definitely enjoyed it and recommend it to everyone.

Yum Village is amazing. The jerk chicken was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor, and the jollof rice was rich and cooked just right. One of the best meals I’ve had in Detroit—definitely coming back.

The chicken was so hard and old that I couldn’t even poke it with a fork, let alone cut or chew it. It was completely inedible and extremely disappointing.
What stood out to me was that everyone else in the restaurant seemed happy with their food, while mine was shockingly bad. I was the only Asian customer there, and while I can’t say whether that had anything to do with it, the situation made me uncomfortable given the huge difference in quality.
I won’t be returning. I’m confused by the positive reviews and feel it’s important to warn others to be cautious before dining here.

Had the jerk chicken, jallof rice, and the rum village drink. Hot, flavorful, juicy, and tender. Also tried the lemon pepper chicken with turmeric rice, which was creamy, juicy, flavorful, and tender. The hush puppies and collared greens were also fantastic.
I had initially ordered a drink which they were out of, and they were courteous and polite in helping me find an alternative. Overall, one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in recent memory, and well-deserving of your patronage.

Food is authentically delicious! Very clean and excellent vibes as soon as we walked through the front door. Staff’s smile and warm welcome, we felt like family. Midtown is a hidden gem in Detroit, and YumVillage is a must-go-to Caribbean foodie experience. Will be returning!
