Today, our 5-8 Grill & Bar in Champlin MN offers a full bar, beer, wine, appetizers, house-made chili and salads, sandwiches, wings, and specialty burgers made with fresh, never frozen USDA ground chuck on bakery-fresh buns. A friend told us about this place and I’m sure happy they did. The building has two adjoining sides. One is a very nice quiet dining area and the other side is the bar which also has seating for dining but is a little noisy. We sat in the dining area and the four of us had no problem carrying on a conversation. The service was great. Our server was very attentive and had a great attitude. As for the food….awesome is a good description. We srarted with cheese curds and shoestring onions…wow both were fantastic. As for our main course I had the jalapeno popper juucy lucy stuffed with cream cheese and bacon and my wife had the classic juciy lucy stuffed with swiss cheese. Both were off the charts delicious. This place is a must try if you are looking for a great place to eat. 10/10

We really enjoy this place. It’s like your neighborhoods Cheers. There is two sides to this place, the bar side and the restaurant side, which we like because we can bring our kids in and still enjoy this place. Food has always been fresh. You can play pull tabs, catch a game on the other side at the bar or just enjoy a relaxing lunch or dinner with your wife/husband.

I had seen them advertised for years and always wanted to give it a try. We had 4 people and the only one who liked their meal had a burger, which they are known for. The other 3 of us all ordered different items (fish, Philly cheesesteak, etc.). If each of ours had half the salt, it probably would have still been too much.

Everything is great here! The waitresses are friendly, fast and helpful! The prices are reasonable. We always take home extras! Warning!! Wait until your Juicy Lucy (or any variety) cools a bit! You can get burned! Molten lava inside! Everything we tried was GREAT!! Bar drinks and non-alcoholic drinks of various types. The parking is free and plentiful. No waiting! Quick service! It can get a little noisy at times but is usually on the quiet side. Very comfortable, come as you are atmosphere. Restrooms are clean and smell good. We are definitely returning! Not really the place for younger children. That is your choice. There is a bar attached to the restaurant so there is a separation.

Cheese curds were plentiful and big. They don’t have the taste quality of state fair curds but were still better than most.
The Juicy Lucy’s and burgers are okay. I usually get just cheese on it.. yes plain however, I don’t have the lack of flavor at other restaurants. The burgers just seem to need a little seasoning on them. They aren’t bad but something is missing.
Fries were okay. We don’t recall disliking the fries here but maybe something changed? I’ve gotten carrot sticks vs fries the last few times but was in the mood for fries last night.
We like the wings. The only complaint is sometimes they are cooked perfect and are moist and juicy, other times they are overcooked with pieces so hard you can’t eat them. It’s unfortunately pretty close to a 50-50 chance and that’s the only reason why we stopped dining here as often. We usually get the Buffalo, Sweet Chili or PB&J. The PB&J was a pleasant surprise the first time we tried them. We got 6 pieces of celery with 24 wings. I prefer a couple more. I really liked the ranch. It was a good in-between consistency of thick and runny. It had a house made flavor. Bleu cheese is good as well. It’s not super chunky but has a good amount of chunks for us.
They have a kid’s menu that comes with crayons.
Service had always been great, including interactions with management.
There is also a 3% service charge. Reason: “A surcharge of 3% will be added to your bill to offset the increasing employee retention and benefit cost. This added fee is not gratuity.”

Came in for Friday fish fry and it’s good! The Summit beer batter has great flavor. Could have been a bit crisper but still a solid 8.9, Coleslaw was fantastic, nice balance of creamy and vinegar with a light kick of what I think is horseradish. Staff and management are sharp and professional. We’ll be back!

We dined at the Champlin 5 8 club for Veterans Day 2025 because they offer a free Juicy Lucy to all veterans. My husband wore his Desert Storm Marine baseball cap. We ate at 1:30 on a Tuesday. It was not at all busy. The waitress, Candi D, was she a poor waitress but even worse, she did not in annyway acknowledged my husband as a veteran! I didn’t hear any employee at all acknowledged him or any other Veteran that was there. Wonderful of the owners of the 5 8 club to offer a free meal to Veterans but very disappointed in the disrespect show by staff. We have been to Texas Road House for Veterans Day in the past and they do a wonderful job of thanking the Veterans for their service. I was truly saddened to see the lack of respect for Veterans by the employees of this restaurant, especially Candi D.

Service was slow but that was definitely expected. There was a huge group that came in before us and you should expect that juicy Lucy’s take longer to cook. I had the jalapeno popper juicy Lucy with no bun and sweet potato fries. I was one of the best I had and would definitely go again. I thought the fries were fine perfectly. The service was slow but very good. The staff was very helpful and attentive.

Fries are top tier, got the juicy Lucy classic, was pretty good but not enough seasoning on the meat.
Overall would definitely recommend, toss a bit of salt and pepper on the burger to take it up a notch.
