I recently dined at Blackwood and, unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to expectations. I ordered a 12-ounce ribeye cooked medium-rare, priced at $44, but it arrived well done. For a steak at that price point, accuracy in cooking is pretty important, and this was a significant miss.
The steak itself could have been enjoyable if prepared as requested, but being overcooked took away from both the flavor and tenderness. Overall, it was disappointing given the cost and the expectations that come with it.
I hope this was just an off night, because I’ve heard good things about Blackwood. With more attention to doneness, the experience could have been much better.
The food was OK, but not great.

I stopped to spoil myself and not cook at home since nobody else was there to cook for. I had the loaded tots, just a few because I didn’t want to fill up on those. Believe me, I’ve had JUST those and a salad as a meal before. But then I had they pot roast. No knife needed, just a light touch of the fork and it fell apart, with gravy I could eat by itself it’s so good. The potatoes are real (I’m assuming because there was a few lumps, just like home) and delicious alone but better with that gravy which is rare for me as I usually dont care for gravy on my mashed potatoes.
The waitress was really pleasant, very attentive, and definitely a good hire. They should be proud. Being a good waitress is almost a dying art.
The only thing I can say is, even in a sweatshirt over a shirt, I was chilled and I wasn’t near a door or window.
Still an excellent way to spoil myself and I had leftovers for a snack later that evening and lunch the next day.
Do yourself a favor, if you’ve never had those tots make sure to stop in and grab some.

On an added note, we’ve had the brunch at the Greysalon Plaza in downtown Duluth for Easter and Mother’s Day over the last 4 years and its an experience that you’ll love. The historic building that Blackwoods has been carefully restoring as a backdrop for a brunch with everything from eggs Benedict to shrimp and prime rib and the beautiful sides.
Don’t forget to spoil Mom and yourselves if you’ve never done it.

Waitress was pretty busy. Asked about an alcoholic beverage. She never got me an answer. Drank water

Open face turkey sandwich they toasted the bread and gravy wasn’t warm. I told her my salad was better than the meal. All other food options were amazing.

Grace is a really good server. She was excellent. We enjoyed wild rice soup, the best cornbread ever. Steak bites, wings, pretzel, and cheese curds. Just absolutely excellent. I wish that a happy hour was the way it used to be , discounted apps more than $1 off . Make some fun specials ( $10 apps !) ..

There is always a warm welcome when we come in. This is my second time visiting this location. The first server was Morgan R. She was super sweet! The second time, we had Randy, who was friendly, too! The Food is Amazing! The drinks were okay; I didn’t taste any alcohol. I have no complaints from my family. I will definitely recommend it. ❤️❤️

Stood at the door for 10 minutes, place was dead but apparently no one works the front. Finally a waitress came by and seated us. Ordered bone in wings, got boneless and they were very reminiscent of Buffalo Wild Wings and that’s not a good thing. Other order was a chili Chicken sandwich, same issue, plenty of breading just no chicken.

We stopped here for lunch on on a Saturday on the way home from Duluth. We were the only ones in there…

We had the ‘Handcrafted’ Strawberry Lemonade which tasted one step above MinuteMade with strawberry syrup dumped in it.

For entrées we had the Wild Rice Melt + Onion Rings, the Cajun Jambalaya Skillet, and the Salmon Sandwich + Sweet Potato Fries.
The Wild Rice Melt was like 1/5, there was very minimal flavor to it in general… even with the cranberries smothered on it. I didn’t even finish half of it. The Onion Rings weren’t good at all, the breading was super hard and the was the kind that crumbles all over, not the quality kind that melts in your mouth. They definitely are not worth the extra $3 they charge you for them.
The Cajun Jambalaya Skillet was also like 1/5. It was more like canned tomato soup with sausage and vegetables in it on a bed of rice than it was actual Jambalaya. There were also big cherry tomatoes dropped in it which isn’t typical for Jambalaya, but also just tasted bad. There was no Cajun flavor to it at all.
The Salmon Sandwich was 2.5/5, very average. The Sweet Potato Fries were excellent though, 5/5 even though they tasted like they were frozen and reheated.

We had the Roasted Brussel Sprouts & Bacon as an appetizer and those were actually really, really good too; 4.5/5. They were not crispy, but the flavor was great.

The service was good. Overall the food tasted like Applebee’s quality (frozen & reheated.. not fresh) & we probably wouldn’t eat here again

We love this restaurant and have come here for years for the food and martinis. We are never disappointed with the service or the food. The bar here is also a great stop for hanging out while enjoying good drinks and food. The martinis are among the best you will ever have anywhere. I love the salmon and hot turkey sandwich. Recently my husband had the corn beef for Saint Patrick’s day and can’t stop going on about it. But that’s a limited time serving. Honestly the food is just good all around!

It was okay. The bartender was great! She mixed me a perfect dirty martini and a couple of house Mules. The food was good. My honey had the meatloaf and I tried the Champagne Chicken. Not my favorite but still enjoyed the bar atmosphere and clientele. We’ll be back!
