Moving my reviews over from Yelp. Originally published 5/12/19:

I had a pretty fantastic lunch here one day when I was in the area. I ordered the shrimp po boy and selected their cucumber, tomato and mozzarella salad as my side dish.

I asked for the salad to come out in front of the sandwich and it did but only by a moment. I really enjoyed the salad! The flavors were bright and full while the textures were as they should be: crisp for the cucumber, tender & juicy for the tomato and a little chewy yet creamy for the mozzarella. The dressing was a light vinaigrette that worked well to complete the dish and I appreciate a side dish that’s well executed as opposed to being an afterthought.

My entree was the shrimp po boy. It was very good but not as well executed as the salad. I loved the flavor of the shrimp but was a little bit concerned that they were just barely cooked until done and still a little translucent. I love sushi and even eat the raw ebi (somewhat hard to find) but in this setting, undercooked caused a little bit of a concern. I also thought there was a bit too much lettuce on the sandwich. All in all, a great sandwich that maybe wasn’t executed quite right on my visit.

I really wanted to love this spot, the menu had promise, the food itself was actually good, and the space had a laid-back charm. But unfortunately, the overall experience was marred by poor service and a lack of professionalism from staff.

When we arrived, there were several open tables, so we were surprised when we were added the “the list” so we opted for the bar. From there, it was over 45 minutes before our food arrived, no updates, no apology, just a long and frustrating wait.

What made it worse was the atmosphere behind the bar. Staff spent most of the time talking (loudly) about how they weren’t even supposed to be there or how it was their day off. It was hard to enjoy the space while overhearing ongoing complaints about customers and co-workers. It gave the impression that no one really wanted to be there, and that energy definitely spilled over into the service.

We had to ask to get our water refilled, and no one checked on us during the meal. For a cafe that’s clearly capable of putting out quality food, the service and vibe just didn’t match. I’m all for casual and relaxed, but there’s a fine line between chill and indifferent.

This place has potential, but unless there’s a shift in hospitality and professionalism, I’d be hesitant to return and even more hesitant to recommend it to others.

Lovely Cafe for breakfast! We ate here several times during a visit to St Louis, both eat in and carry out. The food was fantastic, the coffees were well made and they did great with dairy and gluten allergies!

Really great place tucked away near the AB brewery. Food and coffee were great and the service was great too.

This is one of the coolest Cafe & Coffee Bars I have been too. The atmosphere is amazing and the decor is fabulous. I had an amazing latte & biscuits/gravy. The biscuits & gravy was delicious; the gravy had a hit of spice which made it heavenly. I had a wonderful waitress, Rose, who was/is amazing and helped me with both my drink & food order. She is very polite and astute. I highly recommend coming to this Cafe if you ever get a chance.

Coffee was good, food was okay. Biscuits and gravy was very different. The service was pretty slow today and didn’t seem too busy, but our waitress was very kind. Cups and forks weren’t very clean so had to ask for new ones.

Took my family here for breakfast while we participated in a local vollyball tournament. We’re from Texas….so our goals included “healthy” portions and amazing food. Listen yall, THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT !!! The service was awesome, great, and attentive. If I ever come back the St. Louis, this will be on my bucket list of places to stuff my face !

My office is directly across the street from this café and I’m thrilled to have it as a neighbor! On more than one occasion, I have come in for both breakfast and lunch, and I’ve been known to visit on the weekends for brunch as well! The food is consistently wonderful, the staff friendly and proficient, and the time spent waiting for food has yet to feel like it’s dragging on in any of my many visits.

Given my fondness (and the fondness of many of my colleagues) for their food, I recently reached out to them to ask if they could cater an event for my office . The response was swift, the price astonishingly fair, and the result made me look GREAT to our guests as well as the higher-ups in my company who attended.

If you’ve been on the fence about giving this place a shot, I hope this review knocks you off it and that you land in one of their seats for your next meal!

Found Benton Park & Coffee Bar on an early Saturday morning. They can busy pretty quickly so a reservation is the way to go. I tried to make a reservation online but the only tables that were available were for the next day. I called them and was told they don’t accept same-day reservations. So if you plan to visit, make a reservation the day before. Despite this, we were told that we could be accommodated and to come on by.

When walked in, we were seated immediately. It was pretty busy so our sever took some time but it was an advantage to us because it gave us time to look over the menu and decide what to order.

As a vegan, they do have some options. You can sub eggs with vegan eggs and get a veggie patty. So I got the two eggs breakfast (half order). I got vegan eggs (which I believe where just eggs), veggie patty (which is a impossible burger), hash browns, and a pancake (which is not vegan, don’t judge me, I really wanted a pancake!)

Everything was very delicious. I didn’t know the hashbrowns had cheese in it until halfway through so if you want them, ask for them without cheese.

My husband got a regular egg sandwich. There was a problem with his meal and they were very humble and compensated his meal. This shows that they really care about their customers and the quality of food that they put out.

Overall the atmosphere was nice and laid back. Beautiful artwork adorns their walls and it seems you can buy them if you wish as it had the prices and the artists named! Street parking is available and free. Would recommend this place for meat eaters and non meat eaters alike!

It is my first time in St. Louis and the breakfast here was classic, affordable and real good.

We came here two days back to back. Kat waited on us the first day and she was super nice. They next day, a different waiter had a hard time getting our order right, but one of the other staff, Derrick, stepped in to help us out and took care of us.

Good people & good food. If I lived here, I’d definitely be a regular. Thanks to the staff for being so friendly!
