5 Stars – A Local Favorite That Never Disappoints

Hank’s Dairy Bar has been my go-to spot for years, and it never fails to deliver a great experience from start to finish. Whether you’re stopping in for a full meal or just craving a sweet treat on a summer day, Hank’s is the place to be.

During my most recent visit, I ordered the clam cakes, clam chowder, fish and chips, and a cheeseburger — and as always, everything was delicious. The clam cakes were crispy and flavorful, the chowder was hearty and rich, and the cheeseburger was cooked perfectly with that classic, no-frills taste that hits the spot every time. The fish and chips dinner came with a fresh roll, coleslaw, and tartar sauce. My only small complaint is the portion size of the tartar sauce — if you enjoy a generous amount of sauce with your fish like I do, you might find yourself wishing for a bit more. But overall, everything was cooked to perfection and served hot.

Hank’s is more than just great food — it’s the atmosphere. The parking lot is spacious with more than enough spots, which makes it incredibly convenient. Even on hot summer days when it gets busy, the line moves quickly and the staff handles everything with efficiency and friendliness. It’s a great place for families, friends, or just to hang out for a casual bite.

They also have a small arcade area for kids, which adds a nice touch and keeps the little ones entertained. Whether you’re catching up with friends, grabbing lunch on your own, or bringing the whole family, Hank’s offers a welcoming, laid-back environment that fits every need.

Even if you’re not in the mood for a full meal, Hank’s has a great selection of sweet treats like ice cream and milkshakes — perfect for cooling down on a warm day. The drive there is simple and smooth, especially if you’re coming from Jewett City. It’s an easy, worthwhile trip that always ends in satisfaction.

Would recommend 10/10. A classic summer stop with amazing food, great service, and an unbeatable local charm.

Haven’t been to Hanks in 20 years or so. Used to hang here on Friday and Saturday nights back in my teens/ 20s. Burgers and ice cream all the time. As I got older, I moved more toward some of the seafood. Brought my kids today since we were visiting the area. Got the whole bellies, Mkt price $27, ooof, clam cakes, a burger, and chicken burger. Everything was good. The clams were excellent! The crab cakes were not good. They had a funny seasoning in them and let a flour after taste. We ended with some dipped cones, yummy. That was the only thing we didn’t like. Road side dairy bar. Little game room, some picnic table, and a playground in the back. Friendly staff. It’s a New England staple.

As I have stated previously, this is my favorite type of restaurant, harkening back to my childhood in rural Vermont.

Today is sunny and warm… a perfect day for a country drive and a perfect chance for me to try Hank’s. I came for lunch this trip and was not disappointed. The food is excellent, the portions generous, the service fast and friendly, and the prices reasonable.

Hank’s is a place I will want to return to again and again!

First time here. Ordered chowder and fish & chips
Dble bacon cheeseburger
Med fries and 2 med drinks.
Came to $32 and change (if you pay cash you get a discount)
Food came in a reasonable amount of time, they were pretty busy but they seem to have a pretty good working rhythm.
We sat in our truck and ate our supper.
The chowder was absolutely delicious
The burger and fries were OK according to my grandson (he said Ruby Tuesday smash burgers were better) my fish and chips was OK, the fish batter could have a tad more seasoning. It came with a delicious and super soft roll, a lemon wedge, tarter sauce, fries (good but I like mine a little crispier) and coleslaw. The coleslaw was super interesting, very peppery and zero vinegar. At first I was a little taken aback but, as I ate it, it was really quite good. My grandson went back up for a chocolate twist cone which he said was deeeeelicious!
We were happy when we left and will definitely return to try other stuff on their menu.

I always get excited for Hanks. Consistently great food, the outdoor space is well kept, and it is family friendly. I recommend the clam dinner and the chili dogs.

To be fair my review is solely based on my sundae. I was overly disappointed with my sundae and I just thought I’d share with other potential customers. When you order a sundae, you expect that it will be a large size with yummy ingredients, it didn’t have either. I paid like $7 for a small ice cream basically, not a true sundae. The atmosphere was cool though, I’ll try the food next time.

Take out was disgusting… the hotdogs and clamcakes were squished and everything was burnt and the girls working up front were nice and friendly but food was terrible… food quality and care has definitely gone so far down… extremely disappointed in the food

Disappointed with the food. We ordered clam strips, onion rings, a hot dog and drinks. The strips were frozen, deep fried. Onion rings were crispy with real onion. When we had the clam cakes, they were hard, hardly any clams, but the oil must have been old; the taste was not fresh, and texture was somewhat mealy. The hot dog was good. Had good toppings. Grilled bun.
We split a hot fudge sundea. Not bad, soft serve, nuts, whipped cream, chopped walnuts and a cherry.
The grounds are very clean and presentable. It’s a comfortable place to gone at the of dusk. It a relaxing retro atmosphere. Oldies music is playing. Mixed crowd, families and couple older and younger.

We called ahead about 20 minutes with a 15-20 minute given time, and when we got there to pick up, we had to wait an additional 10 minutes for the food. They only gave me 3 tenders when i paid for 5, but they were more like nuggets. The shrimp was decent, but the sauce was awful and we also didn’t get the ranch for my (literal) nuggets. Overall, honestly a waste of money and the kids there seemed uninterested in doing much of anything. I feel like it’s not that hard to get a small order like ours right and they somehow got what little we got wrong.
