The most underrated restaurant in Scottsdale, Susan Wilcox’s “The Herb Box” is a must-visit, must-try-everything restaurant. This place is unfussy, low-thrills, yet stylish and sexy. The wait staff is hospitable & warm while being knowledgeable of the menu & wines. When staff loves a menu & is willing to talk about it, you listen. Our server, Adam, recommended most of the dishes in this review.

After your first bite of the Kale & Sweet Corn Pakora (a must try, especially if you’ve been before & had the crispy Brussels sprouts), you’ll quickly understand that this restaurant is a cut above the rest. The kale is crispy, oddly creamy, and pairs well with the sweet pickled jalapeño. This dish is a MUST try.

The Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken with fig preserve, a good meal on a cool night. The chicken is crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and creating the combination bite with fig and goat cheese is a recipe for an o.. outstanding evening.

We also ordered the butternut squash & corn enchiladas, one of their award winning vegetarian dishes. I found it to be a bit heavy on the lime, but was otherwise good.

Go here. I’ll see you there. It won’t disappoint.

The Herb Box is an unassuming spot — clean, cute, and with a nice patio area that makes for pleasant outdoor seating. The servers were friendly, though not the most attentive.

We ordered a couple of salads (Chicken Cobb and Urban Steak Salad), the Market Pita Wrap, and a couple of mocktails (berries and mango). The drinks were great — refreshing, flavorful, and a good value. Unfortunately, the food itself was a bit challenging. The flavors were overpowering across the board: both the steak and chicken were quite salty, and the dressings were equally strong, which made the dishes a little difficult to enjoy. It’s a shame, since the proteins were otherwise well-cooked. The pita also came with a very sharp vinaigrette, which overwhelmed the rest of the ingredients.

If you’re someone who likes bold, assertive flavors, this might be your kind of place. But if you prefer more balanced or mild seasoning, it may not be the best fit.

Last night my best friend and I went to The Herb Box for a girls night/birthday celebration. I am from the east coast and her and I have no celebrated our birthdays together in 7 years. We also have allergies and food preferences (she is gluten free and I am vegetarian and we don’t drink).

The Herb Box provided us with huge portions of gluten free and vegan food. It was some of the best tasting food I have ever eaten. The mocktails were amazing!

We will 100% be back.

Everything was delicious! Went for lunch with my family in old town after a morning of traveling, sat in the lovely courtyard. We loved it for a casual, healthy lunch. Loved the plating of salads, nice portions, fair priced, great flavors.

We stopped here for a late lunch. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere here I’d describe as Southwestern Eclectic Chic. As an appetizer we enjoyed fried plantain chips with cilantro/lime crab dip. It was bright in fragrance and flavor and the plantain was a welcome avenue away from tortilla chips. We both decided on the same entree so, here is one review rather than two. We ordered the Serrano-Shrimp salad. First, this salad is huge. Come hungry, share it or plan on taking some home. At the base is thinly-sliced wheat toast with avocado and piled on top are fat, breaded shrimp, super fresh arugula and spring mixed greens with sliced fennel, topped with a Serrano glaze. This salad is amazing and I recommend it, 10/10.

Delicious and unique menu and pleasant atmosphere made for a terrific lunch. We enjoyed the two vegetarian (by choosing no protein – you can get either with meat as well) power bowls. Both were really a great blend of textures, tastes, and portioning without being overdressed or gloppy. The menu has a nice variety of dishes, a lot of just very fresh and light options but with some heartier choices as well.

Service was “good not great” as our drinks sat empty while the servers were just kind of hanging out. Not a big deal, but just slightly disappointed after such good food.

Atmosphere is comfy and nice without being cramped, patio has misters and is partially shaded.
