Food was local and pretty good. Waiter was very helpful. But got ripped off when paying the bill. Ordered two daily menus and one large beer and the blonde lady didn’t even give us the bill, charged 25 euros. Started to calculate later and it should have been 20 euros. So 5 euros went to this lady. Can’t really recommend or if you go there ask before how much it is and pay in advance. I really don’t understand why in many places in Catania they rip off tourists.

Bustling, unpretentious. The service is brisk and very loud with plenty of shouting, but we came in; 2 tourists played out by a public bus and desperate to use the toilet. We asked the proprietor if we could and he waved us in, no conditions, no attitude. We were so grateful we tried their caponata (a large-ish plate of it) and it was objectively one of the better ones we’d tried after a week in Sicily. And that, plus a bottle of water came to €5 flat with no hidden fees. So from our limited experience, the people are kind, the pricing is very decent, and the cooking is pretty solid.

Mediocre restaurant. Good Service but its owner spends a very bad mood, specially with non-italian tourist since she was a bit rude with us. We were changed to other table once were sit down. Waiters were kind and friendly but owner…please keep away from clients.

We came to lunch in this cafe (or bar) close to the museums in Ciminiere. The cafe was almost filled up with locals which indicate a good price-quality rate. Serwants were friendy and speak little English and will do their best to guide you. Many dishes are on display and you just point and they will prepare the dish. We had caponata and pasta norma, ½ l wine, water, a beer. We liked it all including the price for two, 15 €. Claus, Denmark.

My husband and i ended up here while we were killing time waiting for the night train to Rome. We saw “karaoke” on the sign and thought that seemed cool cause we love karaoke.
My husband is a vegan and was actually able to find quite a few things that he could eat and it tasted fine.
The service was practically non-existent, i think the server was scared of us because she didn’t want to deal with people who didn’t speak Italian. So we ordered from inside the building instead. As we weren’t in a hurry it wasn’t a big deal. It was cheap food though!
While we were eating we saw a guy setting up some sound equipment outside and got excited thinking that we might get to see some Italian karaoke, a first for us! And YES! Around 20:30 people started singing, it was great and super entertaining. There were lots of people outside and we felt petty lucky to have stumbled into this seemingly very authentic Catania Friday night hang out with locals.
After listening to lots of enthusiastic singers doing mostly Italian ballads which we didn’t recognize, but absolutely loved, we got to sing a song each and then ran off to catch our train.
If you like karaoke check it out on a Friday night and sit outside! If you don’t like karaoke and want prompt service and communicative staff, this probably isn’t the place for you.

Ripped off when paying the bill. Be careful and ask for a menu before ordering. When I got the bill and asked for the menu to check prices they refused to give it. It is clear from other reviews that these people rip off all tourists. Stay away!!!

Ok there are too many sensitive people reviewing this place. We are tourists and we loved this joint! Yes it is informal and working class. Yes it is cheap. Yes no one speaks English. Yes owner Rosa is a delightful, first class character! And yes, the food is delicious!!! Go with a sense of humor and adventure, and enjoy the wonderful experience!
