The food was excellent. We ordered the octopus, shrimp pasta, seasoned garlic rice, and fried eggplant, and everything was flavorful and well prepared. The 1944 Mai Tai was also very good.
What truly made the night stand out was our server, Nani. She brought such warm, positive energy to the table and made us feel genuinely taken care of. During dinner, there was a medical emergency at a nearby table, and Nani handled it with professionalism and compassion. Before we left, she came over to check in and apologized for being briefly pulled away, which wasn’t even necessary but it showed how much she cares about her guests’ experience.
She also surprised my sister with a slice of cake at the end of the meal, which was such a thoughtful touch.
Beautiful sunset, great food, and exceptional service. Nani truly elevated the experience.
The food is ok, and the recommended dish
is the tomato and fish.
However, while the staff were friendly, the service itself was not well managed. We were seated for over 40 minutes and only had our water refilled once, after which no one checked on us again. The staff were also unaware that the wrong dish had been served until we pointed it out.
Overall, the service has not yet reached the standard one would expect. If you are visiting mainly for photos and the sunset view, it’s still worth it. But if you come expecting a complete dining experience with attentive service, it may be disappointing
The chicken sandwich was equally impressive. The chicken was juicy, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection, paired with a soft yet sturdy bun and fresh toppings that complemented the flavors without overwhelming them. It struck the ideal balance between comfort food and elevated dining.
Combined with the unbeatable oceanfront setting, relaxed island atmosphere, and attentive service, Hau Tree delivers a dining experience that feels both refined and effortlessly Hawaiian. This is a must visit spot for brunch or lunch in Honolulu, and I would happily return for these dishes alone.
I’ve work the food industry for over 11 years, from many different high end establishments to mom and pop small owned restaurants.. i was really looking forward to our dinner at Hau Tree but i don’t think we will be back. I really wanted to love it too!

Ok now to my experience. Food was really good with beautiful presentation.
My favorite was the Eggs Benedict, we got the signature ones and the salmon ones, both were very good. Not much of a fan pf their version of “Shakshouka”. Its a very different dish than what i know as shakshouka in both flavor and presentation. Not a fan, but to each their own.
Beautiful spot and very good service. The person serving us was very helpful and attentive, also made great cocktails recommendations; always a plus.
We had a wonderful dinner at Hau Tree! The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, and the oceanfront setting made the evening extra special. It’s also a great spot for families — our toddler loved her meal and enjoyed watching the boats go by. Such a relaxing, baby-friendly place with amazing service. Highly recommend for a lovely dinner by the water! ✨
