We came to Hau Tree on Monday night to celebrate my sister’s birthday and specifically made a reservation for the sunset and it did not disappoint. The view was absolutely gorgeous. Watching the sun go down over the ocean made the whole evening feel special and memorable.

The food was excellent. We ordered the octopus, shrimp pasta, seasoned garlic rice, and fried eggplant, and everything was flavorful and well prepared. The 1944 Mai Tai was also very good.

What truly made the night stand out was our server, Nani. She brought such warm, positive energy to the table and made us feel genuinely taken care of. During dinner, there was a medical emergency at a nearby table, and Nani handled it with professionalism and compassion. Before we left, she came over to check in and apologized for being briefly pulled away, which wasn’t even necessary but it showed how much she cares about her guests’ experience.

She also surprised my sister with a slice of cake at the end of the meal, which was such a thoughtful touch.

Beautiful sunset, great food, and exceptional service. Nani truly elevated the experience.

Hau Tree is one of those places you should visit at least once to enjoy a beautiful sunset in Honolulu.

The food is ok, and the recommended dish
is the tomato and fish.

However, while the staff were friendly, the service itself was not well managed. We were seated for over 40 minutes and only had our water refilled once, after which no one checked on us again. The staff were also unaware that the wrong dish had been served until we pointed it out.

Overall, the service has not yet reached the standard one would expect. If you are visiting mainly for photos and the sunset view, it’s still worth it. But if you come expecting a complete dining experience with attentive service, it may be disappointing

Try Hau Tree for a more intimate and relaxed dining experience. The beautiful Hau tree with its warm lanterns creates a beautiful ambiance. The service is friendly and non-intrusive. Would be a great date night or fine for a family. The food was truly excellent and featured unique dishes with local fresh ingredients. Try the rainbow caviar appetizer and the pistou chicken pasta for something different. The Waikiki Mai Tai was our favorite mai tai in Waikiki. Definitely a must try for anyone looking for delicious food in a beautiful setting outside of the typical tourist destinations in Waikiki.

Visiting at sunset is highly recommended, as the view creates a truly special atmosphere. Making a reservation in advance is advised, and requesting a seat close to the beach makes the experience even better. The food is delicious and seasoned in a way that suits Japanese tastes well. It was an elegant and deeply relaxing time, and it’s a place I would love to visit again.

I took my girlfriend here for valentine’s dinner. Service was amazing however it didnt make up for the tiny portions and insane price tag. She was super excited to dine at hau tree so I booked us a reservation weeks in advance. I requested flowers at the table as it was valentines dinner, but nothing… I wish they would have contacted me to let me know they couldn’t provide them, as it is a fine dining establishment, i thought the request was appropriate. Overall we left feeling let down, as I was still hungry and the food was mid. Meat was fatty and chewy. We also ordered a cocktail (bloody mary) and it was unfortunately very unpleasant. Our sever did take the drink off our bill after we let her know, which was greatly appreciated. Our server was amazing but having to pay an automatic gratuity of 20% for only 2 people, and then have it ask for additional gratuity seemed insulting. We are canadian, so this meal nearly cost us $500. Very unfortunate, as the restaurant is beautiful.

The avocado egg Benedict is exceptional. The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise was rich but not overpowering, and the avocado added a fresh, creamy balance that elevated the entire dish. Every bite felt thoughtfully prepared, with high quality ingredients and excellent execution. It is easily one of the best Benedict variations I have had on Oahu.

The chicken sandwich was equally impressive. The chicken was juicy, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection, paired with a soft yet sturdy bun and fresh toppings that complemented the flavors without overwhelming them. It struck the ideal balance between comfort food and elevated dining.

Combined with the unbeatable oceanfront setting, relaxed island atmosphere, and attentive service, Hau Tree delivers a dining experience that feels both refined and effortlessly Hawaiian. This is a must visit spot for brunch or lunch in Honolulu, and I would happily return for these dishes alone.

Beautiful location, decent views, wonderful staff.. our server was so great! the food though… soo disappointing 🙁 $50 for a “king salmon” and it was very small, flavors were bland and the peas were undercooked ??? I had the chicken pistou pasta and the pasta was slightly chewy – at first i was not sure if it was gluten free pasta or just undercooked pasta.. my fiance had a bite of my pasta and it was definitely undercooked.. the chicken had decent flavor but one of my chicken pieces were also undercooked and slightly pink, and chewy, i lost my appetite after that bite. For spending $130 (before tip) on food and drinks, we were super unsatisfied ! The menu options were also not the best in my opinion. Very limited.

I’ve work the food industry for over 11 years, from many different high end establishments to mom and pop small owned restaurants.. i was really looking forward to our dinner at Hau Tree but i don’t think we will be back. I really wanted to love it too!

Ok now to my experience. Food was really good with beautiful presentation.
My favorite was the Eggs Benedict, we got the signature ones and the salmon ones, both were very good. Not much of a fan pf their version of “Shakshouka”. Its a very different dish than what i know as shakshouka in both flavor and presentation. Not a fan, but to each their own.

Beautiful spot and very good service. The person serving us was very helpful and attentive, also made great cocktails recommendations; always a plus.

We had a wonderful dinner at Hau Tree! The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, and the oceanfront setting made the evening extra special. It’s also a great spot for families — our toddler loved her meal and enjoyed watching the boats go by. Such a relaxing, baby-friendly place with amazing service. Highly recommend for a lovely dinner by the water! ✨

We had the most amazing last meal of our honeymoon here. The sunset was just stunning. The ube pina colada was incredible. Focaccia and pasta also great. Service was amazing, such lovely staff. They made the night very special for us – even bringing out some congratulatory sparkling wine and dessert on the house. Could not recommend this restaurant enough.
