Sultan Artisan Bakery is an absolute must-visit in Paterson! Their selection of fresh pastries, cakes, and authentic Turkish delights is truly incredible. From the beautiful display of chocolate and fruit cakes to the classic baklava and puddings everything looks (and tastes) amazing. The quality is top-notch, and the presentation is gorgeous. Whether you’re picking up a whole cake for a celebration or just a single piece for a treat, you won’t be disappointed!

The cakes , milk desserts and pastries are delicious. But the Turkish baklava variety is far from the real taste of baklava. It tastes like baklava made in the Middle East. I can’t recommend it to Turkish baklava lovers.

The Sultan Bakery Saga: From Reno’s Runaway Flight to Newark’s Delicious Dilemma
So, the story goes like this: a bunch of us buddies flew out of Reno, Nevada, for a conference. The flight timing? Get this: we took off from Reno at 6:00 PM (Pacific time) and landed with a thump at Newark Airport at 6:00 AM the next morning. Our collective state was one of absolute disaster: intense fatigue, a brutal case of jet lag, desperate need for sleep, and the rumble of starvation. We were all in the same sorry boat!
Sleep Over Hunger: An Expensive Priority
The verdict was in: sleep was a greater emergency than hunger. So, straight to the hotel we went. Since we desperately needed an early check-in, the hotel staff, bless their hearts, saw an opportunity and charged us a small fortune—a hefty sum of dollars! Well, what could we do? It was a “die-if-you-don’t” situation, so the cash had to be forked over.
After a few hours of that “precious” shut-eye, once we vaguely resembled human beings again, our Turkish friend piped up: “Listen up! If you want a phenomenal breakfast, let’s head to the Paterson area. I know a spot that will soothe your soul!”
Taking a Risk, Finding Sultan Artisan Bakery
We friends share one glorious trait: we have no problem taking a risk when it comes to food! So, we agreed immediately and followed his lead. And just like that, we discovered Sultan Artisan Bakery!
As you can clearly guess from the pictures, for an excellent breakfast in that area, there is simply no better place!
It’s immaculate,
the environment is friendly,
and that flavorful Turkish breakfast… oof!
They have all sorts of delicious bakery items, sweets, and the Turkish tea? Absolutely divine! We enjoyed every single moment we spent there (and paid for every single bite, by the way! This isn’t some free sponsored post; we just genuinely loved it!).
The Painful Price of Parking for Perfection
But alas, every masterpiece has a flaw, right? Here, it’s the parking! The area is incredibly congested, and finding a spot is a war!
You’ll often see double parking on the streets.
And you have to drive here as if you are driving in India! You never know who is going to pop out from where!
And those parking meters… oh dear! They look like they’re from the Stone Age! No app, no credit card option—they only run on quarters!
But honestly, I swear: once you finally brave all those troubles and take your first bite of that spectacular breakfast at Sultan Bakery, all your complaints vanish as quickly as horns on a donkey’s head!
Now that you’ve conquered the Turkish breakfast scene in Newark, are you planning to find another “hidden gem” (a stunning restaurant) in the area, or are you ready to try a cuisine other than Turkish?

Sultan Artisan Bakery is a delightful spot with a wide variety of freshly baked goods that are clearly made with care and skill. The pastries are flavorful, not overly sweet, and have that authentic, homemade feel. I especially loved the simit and the pistachio baklava—crispy, rich, and not greasy at all.

The staff was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere had a cozy, welcoming vibe that made me want to linger. It’s a great place to stop by for breakfast or a mid-day coffee and pastry.

The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is that the seating area is a bit limited and can get crowded during peak hours, which makes it less comfortable if you’re looking to relax or work for a while.

Still, a great find and definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area and love quality baked goods with a Turkish twist.

Updated Review (December 12, 2025): 1 Star

Three months ago, I left a 5-star “constructive” review based on a positive experience. Unfortunately, my recent visit has completely changed my opinion.

The woman in the kitchen still couldn’t properly prepare three simple sunny-side-up eggs after multiple attempts in the past. Worse, the morning manager was outright rude, telling me, “Why are you coming back? Don’t come back. We don’t want you here.”

This level of poor service and hostility is unacceptable. I’m downgrading my rating to 1 star and won’t be returning until the (öküz) morning manager is no longer there. The man is perfect to fold pastry boxes. He should be promoted to box folding man job and put it in the corner of a kitchen, away from customers. How can you let this man interact with customers?

The cakes at Sultan Bakery look amazing, but unfortunately they taste stale. The service is also quite poor. It’s always unnecessarily crowded and very noisy inside. We even had to send back a few of our orders several times. Overall, it’s disappointing considering the presentation.
