Oyster & Scales is our newest concept: a Nantucket-inspired seafood house and raw bar that brings a touch of coastal elegance to the bayfront. This elevated dining experience blends classic East Coast charm with modern refinement. Fresh oysters, seasonal seafood, and coastal fare anchor the menu, while the cocktail bar showcases expertly crafted drinks that complement the ocean’s bounty. Above it all, the rooftop beer garden offers panoramic bay views, creating a laid-back yet upscale atmosphere perfect for sunset sips and social gatherings. Oyster & Scales is where timeless seaside tradition meets elevated hospitality.

The first visit to Oyster and Scales – Peter Elias’ up- market homage to a Nantucket seafood house was a delight. The nautical blue and white motif, old and new fixtures, the painted, exposed rafters and some well-selected Serena & Lily chairs made for a thoughtful décor palette. The anticipatory touch of blankets over the chair backs was welcomed,
Ramon at the front of the house and Jason working the dining room made sure that the customer felt welcome. Server Angela’s tabletending was top shelf as was her “bedside manner” in reading the customer.
The dinner was launched with a smokey bourbon cocktail and a traditional cosmopolitan, looking stylish in a vintage coup. A quenelle of chive butter and some warm bread followed. In a riff off another Elias restaurant (Spain Wine Bar) we ordered small plates, channeling a tapas experience.
Roasted calamari- traditional, without batter – was perfectly cooked and lightly dressed. Shrimp croquettes could not have been any lighter with a golden crusted topped with a pepper remoulade. Tuna tartare was a showstopper with a ponzu sauce and the softness of an avocado foundation paired with the pop of a jalapeno.
But if you are an octopus fan (or if you’ve never tried it) this is the one stop on the flavor train you do not want to miss. The texture was ethereal and difficult to obtain no matter what procurement skills you have. The chimichurri pairing was proper. Righteous.
Ahhhh but the scallops. Perfectly executed with cauliflower puree; well plated with three to an order. But here’s the BUT…. $35 was posted to the bill as a “market price” for three. They are not likely sourced from another country and remain a commodity seafood throughout the mid-Atlantic. They are not rare, extra large or otherwise in need of such a markup, in my opinion. I’m not sour that I missed the menu market price posting (MP); it felt more of an embarrassment to what was otherwise such a fine execution.
A rooftop element will be opening in the spring and the downstairs walls are rollable garage doors for water views. This will no doubt be a summer blockbuster. I’ll be back for the octopus and will surely try some land-based entrees for balance.
Oyster and Scales is a fine addition to Ocean City’s overall fine dining scene and paired with Spain Wine Bar, is transforming the core of downtown with some amazing food and beverage offerings. Stop in for sure.

Food ♥️
From start to finish, we had an excellent meal at oyster and scales. We were here before their grand opening so technically a soft opening. I have never had a better experience at a soft opening. They really knew what they were doing. The decor is totally on point and takes advantage of not only the great views, but the natural and elemental feel of Ocean City
We had a party of six we were seated promptly with a reservation and had excellent meals. The menu is done in the style of their sister restaurant, Spain, so, there are appetizers and small plates and large plates. You can make a meal anywhere you want sort of like customize for the kind of appetite you have or the party that is with you. On top of that, the drinks were outstanding. I got a non-alcoholic drink others got alcoholic drinks, and they were all fantastic. The fish we had and they were four of us that got fish, was exceptional. Halibut and also the Ora King salmon. Their lobster salad that some of us started with was divine! On top of that there is Jose, the manager and Peter the owner, and you have a win-win situation for Ocean City. walk or should I say run to oyster scales? It will be well worth it.
(The shrimp & grits Benedict was phenomenal)
We had two signature cocktails that were absolutely delicious but nothing prepared us for how amazing the small plates all were. We had the mushroom orzo, broiled oysters, calamari, pork bao buns and Brussels sprouts. Each dish they brought out was more delicious and pretty than the last!
Could not believe what a little gem this location is especially since it’s brand new! Thank you so much to the chef, kitchen and wonderful waitstaff we can’t wait to be back next time we’re in OC!
Thank you, Lee Lawson for the recommendations!
I enjoyed the catfish bao buns and my husband enjoyed oysters. You can tell that only quality ingredients are used.
He had the half roasted chicken and enjoyed it. He did mention that it needed a little bit more season but that was just his preference.
I had the red snapper! Delicious!
The beignets, with your twist, were very good also. The fresh fruit adds a perfect touch.
The ambience in this place is perfect for a date, girl’s night, or dinner with family.
Great job elevating the dining in Ocean City. We are glad to have an additional fine dining spot to visit.
We will be back for Jazz night….and the bao buns!
