Came here for an early dinner. When you walk in there’s menus and a counter where you’ll order at. There’s not much room at the front so it was awkward to stand and keep shifting out of the way of people while trying to read the menu and decide what to get. Once you order they’ll give you a number & you’ll be seated. Once your food is ready it’s dropped off to your table. For additional drinks you can either go up to the bar or order with a staff.

I ordered an old fashioned, a beer on draft, the steak & fries, and a cookie sandwich. The old fashioned was ok, I really enjoyed the beer & think I’d stick to trying more of their draft beers. The steak & fries was just ok, considering the price point I wished the steak would’ve been higher quality as there were pieces almost entirely of fat. The chimichurri was excellent! I think I could’ve skipped the cookie sandwich as it was extremely sweet especially the filling. I’d probably just try a cookie or bread pudding next time.

Regarding service it was a little funky as one person sat me and helped me initially, a separate person served my food, then another person took care of me towards the end so it was hard to keep up with who my actual wait staff was. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Great spot to eat that’s on my list of safe places for alpha gal allergy now. They were very good with my allergy request – the duck fried rice is delicious and alpha gal safe. Drinks were great as well. Will definitely be back the next time I’m in the area. Ordering process is a bit weird, but it seems to work for them.

We have loved dinner at the Blue Duck but today was our first time coming for brunch/lunch and wow! We have been missing out!!! The house-smoked meats are amazing! The chicken is hand battered with the perfectly spiced batter. The breakfast burritos were delicious. The biscuits and gravy with house-smoked bacon and the added chicken was way more than I could eat, but it was so delicious! Fun, breezy environment with the best service! We were so impressed! Cannot wait to go back! The hardest part is choosing what you want from an incredible menu!!!

The blue duck is a great spot to grab a drink, meal, or better yet a sweet from the bakery case. Hands down best bakery items in Maplewood, id give 5 stars just for the cookies and macaroons alone. They also have a brunch which is nice, but never been.

Over the years we’ve enjoyed the duck fried rice but have discovered the past two times it just doesn’t live up to the hype anymore – idk changed recipe? New chef? Now we don’t get that, it’s usually greasy and tastes off.. other options on the menu are relatively solid and they always have fresh offerings.

The atmosphere is a little different, you order at the counter then sit down. We had multiple people from the staff helping us during our short visit. Everyone is always nice. This is a Maplewood classic, don’t skip it!

The Blue Duck was a great Maplewood experience. Wonderful food, wonderful staff. Nice bathrooms!! Get the Pork Belly Cheese Fries, they won’t disappoint. My only want for our late night visit was maybe a bit of a dimmer ambiance in the evening, especially for a place with such beautiful cocktails and a fabulous spirit selection. Thanks to Mary for above and beyond service.

Interesting concept, but a very good experience overall. It blends counter ordering with table service: you order at the counter, your food is brought to the table, and you pay at the table. Don’t mistake the ordering setup for fast food—the food and atmosphere are anything but. The food is excellent, especially the hand-cut fries. Strong beer selection as well. Highly recommend.

First time Duckers here. Great food. Everything made in-house, even the ketchup! I had a superb classic burger and handcut double-fried fries. AMAZING! Really nice staff. Can’t wait to go back. Next time I’m saving room for dessert.

Wow! That was one impressive benedict!

I was here for brunch with a group of Yelp friends, the wife and Kid 2. Pretty much everyone at the table ordered a benedict of one sort or another and I just couldn’t pass up the idea of the fried chicken benedict. Kid 1 considers herself a purist when it comes to benedicts and will only eat a traditional eggs benedict. If I followed that train of thought I would have missed out on one of the best brunch dishes I’ve had in years.

They have a variety of benedicts on the menu but not a traditional one. I was stuck between the idea of the house special which substituted duck for Canadian bacon and the fried chicken. Given that it was my usual lunch time and the spicy bloody mary I ordered had gone down smooth I decided to go a bit less traditional. What is brunch, after all, but a combination of breakfast and lunch. In this context, fried chicken atop a bread product with an egg and a sauce above made perfect sense.

From the bottom up: toasted english muffin, fried chicken (boneless) breast, poached egg that I think was fried a little too, smack-yo-mama good hollandaise sauce and then a sprinkling of capers.

Yes, it was a bit hard to manage to get everything onto the fork for each bite. Yes, the eggs were cooked a little over where they usually are for a benedict. Yes, the chicken was a bit darker from the fryer than expected. Yes, the hollandaise was a liberal interpretation of what is usually an elegantly simple concoction that requires just a few ingredients but a fair amount of skill to prepare properly. All of these were reasons why I could have liked it less. None of them mattered.

The dish just worked!
